Ran across a SAKO Finnbear in great shape. Love old Sako's and think this may be a great caliber. Ammo may be hard to find but I reload.
What's the boards experience?

Great round. If you can load it for cheap I would get.it. I love those old sakos also. I wouldn't do it if I was buying ammo though. It's super high.

Do you think 1200 is a decent price? Most I've seen are twice that. Bofors steel barrel, metal great shape

6.5s are all the rage. .264 is 6.5. Hot caliber in a great rifle. Why not?

Easy to burn a barrel with this round. Buddy of mine had one that he loved. Replaced the barrel several times. If you can have a smith check it before hand, I would recommend that.

Great round. It was Winchester's attempt to counter Remington's 7 mag

If I was to ever build a 6.5 it would be a Win Mag but then again I'm a little nostalgic for the old Winchester stuff. One good thing is brass can be made from 7mm Rem Mag brass since the 264 stuff is sometimes hard to find.

Used one since 1966. Just a fantastic gun. Winchester model 70. Tack driver. Put a new barrel in it a decade ago and glassed it. If I can hold it on the target it will do the job. I use 100 grain on whitetail. Performs beautifully. You will love it! I’m about to have another built.

Woah 100 grain out of a .264 is moving in the 3500 FPS range. That must be catastrophic tissue damage on deer
