Anyone ever do a hunt in Canada?

I am looking for information about getting a big game license and how hard is it to bring your own rifle?
I have a buddy from Newfoundland that has a brother there that is a guide. He did a moose hunt this past year and told me I am welcome to come this year.

I have some buddies that goose hunt up there. I think one year they jumped through the hoops and did all the paperwork and they said it was a hassle.
In subsequent years, they just used the guns the outfitter provided (Benelli).
I guess the question to ask is what rifles does your buddy's brother have to offer. Make a determination based off what he says.

went to ontario 4 years ago on a bear hunt just like US case gun and retrieve at baggage --Canadian customs was more interested at where i was going to hunt and how much-- coming back Canadian customs guys were giving us recipes - US customs just took a peek at bear hides and waved us through --on another business trip to vancouver with the wife they grilled us so much i almost lodged a complaint

Several, but always with a camera. Never with a firearm.

I’ve done it a few times. Just some paperwork, 30 bucks or so, and less than an hour inspection.
The US side on the return took longer.
Dont try it if you have criminal record including DWI. They will turn you away

I guide waterfowl in Canada in the fall. Bringing your own firearm isn’t too big of a deal. Just make sure you’re thorough on any paperwork you have to fill out.

You still wear a mask at walmart don't you?

You can still get through with a criminal record. There’s a form you have to submit prior to your arrival date. Once it is approved and mailed back, have it in hand when going through customs.

This won't be an issue. I would prefer my own gun, but I will have to speak to my buddy to find out how he does it.

From what I understand this is no longer the case.

Hunted Canada last several years except 2 COVID years. Always bring my own gun and have never had a problem. Just leave enough time between flights when you enter the country.
Do not fly through Toronto if you can avoid it at all. Go through Newark to fly to Halifax. Then to Newfoundland. US customs in Toronto is a giant pain.
Best part of Newfoundland moose is you can have all your meat shipped back to US and you pick it up. Used to be able to go to Mobile. Last time drove to Tulsa and got 300 lbs of meat.
