I can get two of these and get ride of the four yamahas on the back of my boat and still save weight.

It’s possible that you could do same with one of the 600 mercs. Would bet the two speed LU has enough torque for it to happen.

The transmission is the biggest development. A second gear is a great start, but I bet it isn't the last. If they can generate and keep up the torque to keep turning the the props once on plane at a much lower rpm ~ better fuel economy.
