anyone do their own deer skull mounts?Posted by LSUTIGERTAILG8ER
on 12/3/19 at 1:38 pm

I have done several over the years.
Never have I used the 40 Vol developer for whitening the skull, only regular
wal mart peroxide soaks.
Im getting my hands on some 40Vol from a friend and wondering how to apply it? how long? etc. TIA

Mix it with Basic White powder bleach, make a paste and brush it on. Place the skull in the sun until it drys. Wash it off and place back in the sun. Works very well!!

I only do it if I have some camo dip readily available.
Or my airbrush kit

I've only done a couple and the H2O2 works just fine.

I did this tutorial a while back. Pic links are no longer good, but if anyone needs them feel free to email me.

But basically what CoyillonTiger said.

Just cover the teeth and base of the horns with tin foil and spray a light coat of flat white paint on it. Boom done.

I did this with some 40Vol. I let it sit for a few hours. I didnt want it bleach white.

Yea I’m not a fan at all of the hydro-dipped or painted skulls. Very truck stop-ish

Ive done several with bootleggers pot. Works best if outside temp is above 50 degrees to me. Get the bleach paste as mentioned above and bush on.
Ive done 10-12 over the last few years. I take it every year to ks and mo to do our heads to bring back.
