Looking for a new cold weather jacket, came across some Carhartt level 4 jacket. Are they worth a damn?

Was in -11 working nights in Colorado. My beard was frozen solid but that jacket plus the bibs, cold never touched me.

The Extreme line is great. I had the American Made hooded coat in level 3 and the Extreme bibs that zip to the waist. Worked in -36 in Nebraska a couple years ago and spent most of the night outside. Had layers on underneath and stayed warm.

They’re woke for sure. Make your own decision.

I bought a thick jacket with a hoodie from them a few years ago, not sure what model. Unless it is the coldest weather we see in Louisiana, I start sweating in it with the least activity.

A good question is what is a good alternative to Carhartt? They do make some quality winter work gear.

I've worn mine in Prudhoe Bay, AK. Performed very well.

If you're looking at FR, Ariat makes nice stuff. I think it's all FR though.

When Carhartt went woke, I started buying some Duluth outerwear. Very happy thus far. Seems to be in same ballpark for price and ruggedness. This heavy shirt-jacket has been one of my favorite clothing purchases in the last few years. I throw it on for hunting, running to the pile for firewood, it's a little chilly at work, etc. I wear it often, so well worth the price tag. I don't think I could cut the damn thing with my pocket knife.

I'm usually a "catch it on sale, find it on field supply, or wait til the new one comes out" type guy, but this one was a solid buy.
