In LA or anywhere? Just about every guide in Rockport to the LLM starts throwing live croaker about now.

Bay St Louis I fished with love croakers last weekend. The Marina sells them. Kinda pricey but sometimes can be better than live shrimp. I know they stay alive a lot longer and I find we catch bigger trout on the croakers

When we fished out of fourchon and leeville we never used shrimp for trout Guide would use cocahoes and we would cast net for pogies and fish the rocks Cocahoes are tough critters.

When I used to fish with Steve Shook (RIP) we would use pogeys or croakers or both, pitching them free lines against the East Timbalier rocks. Caught some hogs that way. Never used shrimp.

its seasonal to match the hatch
when its shrimp season and they are running they use shrimp
when fish spawn they switch over to bait fish
match the hatch isnt a slogan, its meant an an instructional guide

Croakers and pogies have been difficult / impossible to get on the weekends everywhere for the past few years for the regular ol dood.

Absolutely, right now. It's a blast too, when they're working. Got my son on some good ones last weekend on croakers. Just gotta make him put the rod in the holder so he can't start reeling too early.
