Never done it, but a small amount of dry ice and a good cooler seems like the best route. Delta site says up to 5.5lbs, but they've got a few other requirements, so read up first if going that route.

May be easier to pack it up in a cooler with dry ice then box it up and ship it back UPS next day air.

I fly shrimp to Canada every year for a boil that I put on for the farmers who let me hunt ducks on their land.

I just fill it with regular blocks of frozen shrimp and gumbo. Then tape it up and go. I imagine you can just do the same thing. Fresh fish with blocks of frozen fish. Or blocks of frozen ice.

Check it as a $50 checked bag. It will be fine for a day or so.

I use to bring 40lb or so of tuna in a carry-on every trip home from the rig in a cooler bag. As long as it was frozen hard they didn't care.

The RTIC and the YETI backpack coolers are the perfect dimensions for an airline carry on for a reason....

I did this coming home from Montana with my de-boned Mule Deer meat....

I also carried the caped out skull and antlers strapped to my backpack...

I was worried they'd look at the rack as a weapon...nope...went right on through. Sparked a metric shite ton of conversations in the terminal and on the plane though

Where are you fishing? A lot of the marina's and/or captains can give you suggestions on getting it back by shipping, etc. I just got back from Islamorada and wore the Mahi/blackfin tuna out btw.

Out of port of miami. I dont know the boat, friends uncle owns 30+ boats that they charter. Friend was going to fly us down on his collogues jet, then we were flying back Delta. But his wife just tested positive for Covid, so fricking trip is canceled now. Hoping to reschedule in October
