Fished there a little bit a few years ago. Tough for bass. Few regulars catch some fish there but you won't load the boat. We mainly caught panfish when we caught anything.

"Blind river"
Probably don't have to worry if your hook is too shiny.

It's a river full of blind fish. They can't see anything, therefore you'll hardly get a bite.

I've seen the signs that say Blind River, driving through in my truck a few times. Is it a real river or just a big long slough?

It's a real river - feeds into Lake Maurepas. As deep as 40' feet in spots. Lots of bayous and sloughs feed into it. The fishing seems questionable though.

Don't know. Buddy of mine lived off New River for a while and we would fish it running from his house. We never figured it out for bass other than catching a few small ones every now and then. Could just be I'm a bad fisherman...

I think the biggest challenge with Blind river is it needs some flow. Most of it is stagnant water.

The swamp in that area has struggled due to water stagnation ever since the levees were put up on MS river. Northwest of the lake is still occasionally refreshed by Amite river. but blind river basically drains everything north of the MS river to French settlement between Prairieville and Garyville. But flow is all based on the rain that falls exactly in that area. Whereas most others like Amite pull flow from much further away as well, like areas of MS. Used to be the MS river refreshed the swamp in that area on the yearly. Not that I'm complaining - I enjoy the levee protection just as much as the next guy. But it's a good lesson in unintended consequences.

A plan is in the works to create a diversion into the maurepas swamp, which would be a drastic improvement.

But who knows how long it will take for that to happen.
