I bought St Croix 5wt combos for the wife and I 25 years ago. They weren’t bargain, but mid range pricing. They’re still going.
Spend money on the rod. The reel doesn’t matter until you get into bigger fish.

A bit but not the snobby arse kind that loves Patagonia and thinks the rivers should be no hatchery fish type of douche.

Those fisherman can kiss my arse.

Never tried TFO reels, will check them out. I've got a TFO axiom-II 9' 7wt and TFO lk legacy 9.5' 8wt. Both are great rods.

I thought I caught a big smallmouth last week but it was damn suckered haha

Yeah, we’ve got a few of those types here. They’re decked out in their $1000 Simms waders and Patagonia gear, but can’t catch a trout to save their life

Love Simms. I have a pair of their Gore-Tex waders that are over 20yr old.

And I didn’t take the fly rod fishing at my pond y-day and regret it. So so many bream and stuff that would have easily been caught on a fly rod that wouldn’t hit a beetle spin or roostertail.

Simms waders

Good company, they don't support the people that want to kill fishing.

I'm cheap. I've got their Freestones but still great waders at 200 bucks.

Maybe I'll go find the list of companies and fly shops that do support and post it.

For sure. I have some. I just don’t parade around in them to make a fashion statement like some of these dudes visiting the area like to do

They’re more interested in social media posts than catching fish.

redfish99 Great fishing, are you doing the private water with Davidson River outfitters or just fishing the rest of it?

Had a great morning pond fishing yesterday. The bass were hitting a popping bug. Also added a few bream on a break killer.

Have multiple days booked with DRO for their private waters. In between days will be in public waters putting to work what I’ve learned. Building a cabin in Brevard next year so I’ll be up there a bunch going forward

a buddy went with them, caught some really nice fish. we decided to ride the Pisgah trails that day but fished the public water the rest of the time and caught a bunch of small wild fish on a few other rivers. Troutroutes is an awesome app to find good places.

No such thing as wild fish.

Doesn't matter what the Native Fish Society group of figs say.
