You can build one as light as you want for the right $$$. You're looking at around 8 or 9 pounds for a reasonably priced one though.

ETA. And that's if you go with a 16 in barrel.

I could handle that weight. I'm going to look into it.

In the BR area where would be a good place to go look, Jim's?

I don't know if Jim's carries any Ar10s, but if they do I'm sure they are expensive. However, if you wanted to pick one up and get a feel for it, it would be a good start. I wouldn't buy one from there though.

I'm with Ice Cream Sandwich, I'd probably take a look at Armalite.

Armalite is the original "AR." They are quality weapons.

But I'm not sure if they accept LR Pmags and that's a downside to me. Pmags are the best magazines on the market.

EDIT: Wazoo, Jim's has tons of AR10-platform rifles.

Heavier than other ARs. 8-9lbs sometimes more. I know that the Sig 716 is 9.5lbs with no optics. However, it is a fine rifle. I just wanted mine lighter and got it around 7lbs before a 12oz scope.

Jims is great for viewing, terrible for buying. Unless you are OT rich and if you are then buy away and give me $100 for my time and thoughts.

How important is the stripped lower as far as quality?

Just make sure it's forged. That's about all I see as being important.

Not much difference between them if they are stripped. The money is in the trigger. If I would building I would look for the best deal I could find on a stripped lower and pick the trigger I wanted.

Lower stripped quality. Most will say it doesn't matter. Some will say yes. I say that it doesn't matter one bit as long as it isn't polymer.

Meh that's another iffy thing. Some swear by Spikes enhanced LPK and other say that it's useless. However, I am going to say that as long as you get a quality trigger kit you may skimp on the rest of the LPK.

I am not an AR expert. I just have a understanding of the market and how they go boom. Carson will be able to give better advice.

Some do, some dont. Not sure the rhyme or reason behind it though.

Dust, take a look at the DPMS Recon .308. It sounds exactly like what you want. It was exactly what I wanted but I am not patient enough.

Just trying to find the best 2 stage trigger without spending a whole bunch.

Rock River National Match 2-stage.

I wanted a Geissele for mine but found an assembled RRA lower with the national match in it. It was so damn smooth and very crisp so I hopped on it. No regrets.
