Amp Research automatic running boards.
Any of you baws running these, or similar branded items? Looking into it, but they seem fairly pricey and I wonder if they have issues with staying up or staying down that would negate spending the money on them.

re: Amp Research automatic running boards.
I have the Powerboard brand on my truck and honestly I hate them. No amount of wd40, penetrating oil, lithium grease, etc can keep them from squealing like a pig being murdered with a butter knife. I’ve had a couple motors go out, occasionally they’ll open on their own, occasionally they won’t open at all. So yea, don’t get the Powerboard brand.

I know of a couple people with Amps that don’t have any issues like I do.

Paw in law has them. The power source went out after about a yr but they replaced it easily. He’s been happy with it.

Ahh thanks all for the info. I have some buddies with the factory ones as well and they have no problem but I was a little concerned with aftermarket. So if the power goes out, its not an entirely difficult replacement, as in you don't have to buy an entire new one. Good to know. Thanks again and Happy (early) Thanksgiving.

I believe AMP is who ford uses. No issues on my 2017 King Ranch.

I’ve sold them for years and they don’t like mud. Keep them clean, oiled up and you should be good to go.

ahh, actually I just read that after I started this thread that amp was used by Ford very interesting. And yeh I would imagine that mud and dirt could end up being an issue for them. thank you.

re: Amp Research automatic running boards.
Amp Research does make them for Ford and they make the motors for the electric Rollnlock bed covers. If you get amp steps and they get any mud on them just open door handle a little(rear door on crew/ext cab) let them deploy and power wash off. What kind of truck do you have? they tuck away differently per truck?

2018 xlt supercrew. That makes sense, then you can just spray it while it's opened. So since Amp Research makes Ford's then basically they are "oem" or the same you would get from a dealership.

Oem board brackets are made a little different than after market brackets, I think oem looks sturdier than non oem ( even though they aren’t). Can’t go wrong with either one imo.

re: Amp Research automatic running boards.
Awesome. thanks for the feedback. Now I have another thing to blow more money on.

Edit: one last question. Do they come down whenever any door opens? Say if you are loading stuff in your truck to go somewhere and making multiple trips to put some in, they'll come down and back up each time im guessing. Surely that won't ruin the motor after a year or two.

Every time the door opens they come down, I think oems can be programmed to act differently though, possibly staying down when programmed n the menu screen.

ETA, the motors are heavy duty And made to open and close many times a day. Hope this helps

OEMs can be deployed via the information screen in the instrument cluster. They will retract automatically once the truck moves.
