Ammo delivery issues- UPS

I know this topic has been discussed before, I'm posting as a Public Service for members here.
Ammo is expensive and in demand. Online sellers can beat local prices most times,... but then you are at the mercy of shippers.
Ammo must have a distinctive label, and even if double-boxed, that "Hazardous" label must be present and visible. Given the small size of the box, the weight, and the label, it's very recognizable as to what it is.
I had an order of 223 (a case, $319 shipped to my door) on the way. It scanned in and out of 8 UPS locations from initial ship to arrival in Baton Rouge.
1 hr after arriving in BR, my tracking progress has a flag listing "delayed for illegible label". I sent an inquiry about this, since that label was scanned- how can it be suddenly illegible?
Next day I get a response that it can not be located, presumed "lost in transit"- AFTER MAKING IT TO THE BATON ROUGE SITE?!?- and was sent a link to initiate an investigation.
It's been 5 days, no further update. I call UPS and it's "still under investigation", call the seller and they can't do anything until UPS rules.
I'm certain I will be refunded- it never made it out for delivery. But it's going to be tough to match that price.
Y'all just be aware of the risks right now. UPS can't 'prove' theft, nor would they want to admit it. But I'm not the first person to find that they are "losing" a lot of ammo over the past year.

UPS personnel stealing ammo has been a widespread problem over the last year or so.

UPS personnel will steal a lot more than just ammo. I have had wiper blades stolen, among other things. Worst shipping company out there. I won't use them if possible, but when you buy online you are at the mercy of the company you purchase from.

I ordered that same 1000 rounds from your link in that ammo thread. Was just delivered today. Shipping was UPS and it was strange. Would say out for delivery one day then go back to being in transit. I should open it just to be sure it’s not 26 pounds of bricks.

I'm guessing you have not used FedEx as of lately if you think UPS is the worst? I deal with both carriers on a daily basis. Both have issues, but FedEx is a hot mess.

Fed Ex is the worst.
I had a Fedex package after Ida, it was delayed a week or more but finally showed up.
I have had UPS packages, with Live Map View tracking, where I have seen the truck drive past my street at 1:30pm, and drive off to damn near 20 miles away before returning to deliver mine. A lot of times it was after 9pm, sometimes they would come back the next day. Several times they drove past my house (I saw the truck) and listed "unable to deliver" on the tracking, as though I wasn't home. I don't work 9-5 M-F, I'm often home at weird times.
A couple times they tried to leave it at a "pickup location", which for me was in the neighboring hood at a phone-repair joint operating out of an old 7-11 building; I called the 800 number and said NO frickING WAY.
In addition to the current theft, I don't think they like the heavy package of a case, and delay that as long as possible. At least, my local UPS guys do.

Know your UPS man. If he seems sketchy, probably not the best idea to have him delivering your packages.
Most really rural areas have the same guy deliver the same routes for years and people get to know them a lot better than metro guys.

I order ammo all the time and my boxes are not marked in any way identifying them as being ammo. I also have never not received my ammo.

Happened to me back in April. Rerouted the delivery to North BR.

I ordered 500 rounds of 223 back in July of 2020 for like $130. Still haven’t seen that shite. Deliver date keeps getting pushed back. My new eta is aug 2022. Fingers crossed! I keep waiting for them to cancel due to the price, but I’m hopeful

When you see that symbol on something the size of a shoe box, and it weighs over 20 lbs, delivery guy is going to know what it is.

Past year or so, things changed.
That $180 box of S&B 9mm that you could get anytime you wanted from SGammo, targetsportsusa, Brownells etc- you couldn't find it hardly anywhere, and you're lucky to find it under $400 if you did. Closer to $500 a lot of times.
That's when I started hearing of trouble with UPS.
I hadn't bought much until very recently, as the prices receded and I wanted to fill things back up.
First time I've had a package disappear like this. I spent over $300 on something, I would sorta like it to come.

That's BS. They could easily refund you or send a replacement IF they wanted to.

It's not a $10 Amazon impulse purchase, where if you even contact them they're likely to refund or send another just for customer satisfaction.
Case of ammo is a whole other animal. For me (buyer), I'd rather get the merchandise than a refund; the whole purpose was a decent price.
For the seller, I assume they have a decent profit margin, but not a huge one. I'm sure they'd rather have the cash from UPS in hand, before they send another one to me (or refund me). I kinda wish they would hold UPS over the fire more, but apparently since I was the one who filed (and not them), they don't get a lot of input.
Being an untrustworthy shipper is a BIG deal, in today's economy.

Mind sharing the site you used to purchase? I’ve been very hesitant to order online.

I heard on the radio that 280 million packages have been stolen this year. That is stolen, not lost. Wtf!

We ere already moving to an online/delivery economy prior to covid, which basically sealed the deal. Huge amount of merchandise rolling on those UPS/Fedex/Amazon/USPS trucks.
Drivers and employees don't make "a ton", and probably only requirement would be the appropriate license to drive the vehicle.
Ammo side of the deal- despite comments to the opposite, it IS pretty easy to recognize a case of ammo. Size, weight, hazardous label.
Ammo surged in demand, and dropped in availability. For example, I don't want my $318 back, I want my case of 223. I probably won't find another case of 223 to the door for that price.
And it's really hard right now to push "theft" towards certain demographics. You basically need video evidence, and then it's still unlikely.
