so brave of you to say this.

Joe Rogan had a former winner on last week. Jordan Jonas is his name if I remember correctly. Pretty fascinating to listen to. The dude killed a moose with a recurve bow and then the rest of his time was spent defending it from wolverines.

Do they get anything if they don't make it to 100 days? Say making it 60 days and then have to tap out?

Love that show.

Still remember the guy that caught so much salmon and smoked it but NEVER ate it.

He wasted away to nothing and had to quit.

I enjoy reading the list of what they'd bring, their 10 items. I think my biggest worry would be mosquitoes, I'd eventually lose my mind over getting eaten up all day every day. Gill net is a good one to bring he has listed, and sleeping bag for sure.

Previously it was a half million to the person that stayed the longest and most seasons it was in about 60+ days, new rules this year that wont be announced until tonight, but my guess is half million to the person that stays the longest and an extra half million if he makes it 100 days???

Yes. To the dismay of his own health. Docs came in and ended his show for him.

Blood pressure was on the floor.

I still don't know how the frick that Monroe baw survived 3 weeks in the Atchafalaya basin swamp on Naked and Afraid. Hunting Sherburne early in the season is awful because of how bad the mosquitoes are there. I can't imagine how miserable being naked and getting torn up by those frickers for 1 night, let alone 3 weeks.

You acclimate. Its hell to do though knowing you have an out....given no choice the mind quickly refuses to acknowledge it. That is why marriage is so damned difficult....the mind never gets over the fact that you can cry uncle and get the frick out....

My experience in Alaska was that the mosquitoes were much more numerous and ferocious than anything I have encountered in Louisiana, i wore a mosquito net almost daily there and have never needed one here, that being said after a few days of no showering they did not seem to bother you as much until you cleaned up with baby wipes and waterless shampoo, then you were right back to square one

Kind of hard for the mosquitoes to live in the Arctic i would imagine, or bite you through the many layers of clothes you have on b/c you're freezing your arse off, and if they managed to get through those two obstacles, to ignore the fire and smoke that you'll likely have going at all times, especially at night.

I just finished a book written by am Icelandic scientist who was doing research in the Great Slave Lake area where season 7 is going to take place....and I am currently reading a second account by the same scientist when he went back. This was in 1910 or so. Fascinating reads. The second one is "My Life With the Eskimo".

The writer grew up in "the Dakotas" and referenced winters in that region being far worse than those above the Artic Circle....with the caveat that it wasn't possible to survive in the manner of a European above the artic circle but adapting the ways of the indigenous peoples made the winters less impactful as ones in the Dakotas and living as a European (or American / Canadian).

Not to get too far off subject but this being an outdoor forum his description of seal hunting is FASCINATING. Apprently seals spend the entire winter under water (ice) and must maintain breathing holes through several feet of ice....but in the summer some of the ice opens up and they will lie on the edge of open areas and sleep in the sun...but they only sleep 10 seconds or so at a time...waking up every 10 seconds and scanning the area around them for polar bears.....so the Eskimo...and the polar bear....will time the sleeping sessions and when the seals head drops to sleep they will slither along on their bellies...man and bear alike...for 10 seconds and stop dead still, knowing the seal will soon awaken and pop up to scan the area around him....and then fall asleep again....the man and the bear both can get within "pouncing" distance by merely mimicking a sleeping seal and only moving when the seal is asleep! Of course the dude also claimed to routinely wait for shots at Caribou until 2 or more were lined up so he could take more than one with one shot and thus save ammo....so he may be full of shite LOL....but still interesting reading...

They are out there in the fall and winter. I have never heard of anyone complaining about mosquitoes and I have watched every season and every episode.
WHere the hell are they going to bite you, you're face? there's nothing else exposed to be bitten.

Not only are the far more numerous they are exponentially more viscous....I think it is supposed to do with the short period of time they have to breed so they make hay when the sunshines…..but whatever it is they are a different monster from the skeeters we are accustomed to who have 12 months a year to make babies.....
