How is it "too soon"? He's just using it as grounds for a good discussion about the two guns.

doesn't take much to jam up the M-16 and I'm speaking from experience.

Does anyone think the coward scum would have stood there taking fire even in body-armor?
I was under the impression that he wasn't even wearing actual body armor, just a tactical vest.

On less controversial grounds, I really wish someone had been there with a legal concealed carry firearm and had taken him down. The number of concealed carry permits would skyrocket.
I think alot of people would have hoped for this. Or at least someone try to tackle him, fight him, subdue him. I can't imagine the chaos in the theatre with the tear gas though. Not second guessing anyone in the theatre....i bet it was chaos.
Also, if someone would have taken him out, he would not have been able to inform the police that his apartment was booby trapped. Could have been potential victims to police if they entered that apartment. All around a very messed up situation.

I love the AK47 but do you think it was the AR that was the problem or the cheap aftermarket drum he was using?
Most likely the drum. I think the fact that he couldn't clear the jam shows that he was very inexperienced with the weapon.

he probably wasn't. media just playing it up IMO
"tactical gloves"

It really amazes how "journalists" of their caliber can be so frequently wrong when it comes to weapons and firearms related gear.

I've been tear gassed before. Its not like you go blind right away

Actually he would drop his shite and surrender. Just like he did on the scene. He wanted to kill not fight.

Also, since he threw the canisters at the bottom of the theater, you'd think there would be ample time for someone on the upper rows to get some shots off before the gas dispersed to their level.

Yep. Any real/armed resistance and he would've folded like a wet paper bag.

Was not possible there, the theater was no gun, and the city has a strict gun laws...

Currently in Aurora, Colorado, where the shooting took place, there are already laws prohibiting the carry of a concealed dangerous weapon (though unenforced, due to state law),* discharge firearms,** unless by law enforcement on duty or on shooting range, and have a loaded firearm in motor vehicle within the city limits.***
quote:
BUT in Aurora, it is still against the law to fire the weapon unless at a shooting range (or if you are an officer on duty). Therefore, it would have been illegal for anyone to fire in the theater. Also, the theater reportedly had a ban on any and all weapons. Anyone without a conceal-and-carry permit in Aurora must also keep their guns unloaded unless at a range.

More than likely it was the drum and cheap bulk ammo, and that can be cleared with relative ease by anyone who knows what they are doing with the weapon

Well that's fricking stupid. Maybe if this happened here, the outcome would have been a little different.
Posted on 7/23/12 at 1:21 pm to prplhze2000
It also doesnt take much to clear a jam, either.
This isnt '68 anymore, they are a bit more reliable now. And I'm speaking from experience

Do you notice that these shootings all happen in places where guns are not allowed, or in heavily regulated cities...

So was a bank I used to work for before I was a LEO. I'd never be so happy to get fired ever. Glad the theater was a gun free zone though. I'm sure some idiots still feel better.

Dude would have had 5 bullets in his head by the time he could say Batman.

Packing heat with no heat. I guess you could have thrown your pistol at him. Sneak up behind him and hit him over the head with your heat. Kinda of a stupid law imo. You can carry a gun around but you can't put bullets in it unless your a cop or on the range. Here is your concealed weapons license Mr. Smith and have a good day.
