About the size of a quarter? if so, white oak.

Looks like a shag oak. Don't know the real name. Is the bark of the tree real thick/rough and dark?

Looks like Japanese Sawtooth Oak, Quercus acutissima

Not native but people have been planting for long time due to fast growth and young acorn/consistent acorn production.

im almost certain thats what it is, has it had acorns on the ground a while? they typically drop pretty early and make for a good bow/early season food source

I suck at telling trees apart, especially diff oaks. Basically to me it’s an oak, cypress, pine, willow or maple. Trying to get better. I may revisit this with additional intel. There were a ton of acorns and looked like they’ve been getting hit and no squirrel cuttings. Also no deer scat but just had fresh rain.

I’m not sure how long. Could be awhile as I saw a lot of empty caps. I was kind of scouting walking out last night when I stumbled on them. 2nd time I’ve been to this general area, last time was in September.

Ok, next time I will look at the trees (they’re smaller as there are a bunch and it’s a pretty thick area) and leaves.

Appreciate the feedback from everyone.

You're doing better than me--I see pines and not pines.

When it really comes down to hunting there are only two types of trees you need to know....

Oaks and Persimmons

Nothing else really matters

sawtooth, white oak does not have the curly q's and fuzz on the cup, and a quick glance at the leaves of that tree will confirm, a white oak has characteristic rounded edges on the leaves and the bark is white and scrape looking
