So I’ve never shot steel through any of my pistols but in this age of ammo shortage it’s all I have been able to purchase over the last couple months. Of course some is better than none.

Maybe it all boils down to preference, but is there any reason you rather one over the other? Anyone experience any issues with one or the other?

Steel is just fine in 9mm. Brass will feed more consistently. You can’t reload steel. Some people say steel is dirtier but I think it’s negligible. Steel will supposedly wear your gun out faster but I doubt most people shoot enough for that to even matter. Buy the steel and go have fun.

That’s because they pick up the brass and sell it. Steel cases are not worth anything.

I only shoot brass because I reload and that’s what I pick up.

Can’t reload steel.

Steel is fine, historically the price difference between steel cased and brass cased has be negligible in 9mm and it didn't make much sense to even bother with steel cased... now, get what you can get.

Steel generally shoots dirty. I have plenty of brass, so would never use steel unless it was a dire emergency.

I shot a few hundred rounds of steel in my two 9mm pistols and had no issues at all. Take what you can get these days.

Are y out talking about Steel Bullet vs lead bullet?

Or steel case vs brass case?

Great article, thanks for sharing.

I actually require my carry gun and any home defense gun to shoot steel. If it doesn’t then I won’t carry it or use it. The reason is exactly what we are experiencing today, availability. As a reloader, I love brass but when brass isn’t as readily available, my gun needs to function with whatever ammo I have.

Historically, I have not had any issues with steel cased ammo.
