I like Hornady American Whitetail. It shoots tight as shite out of my Bergara, and I like soft point bullets on deer

Yes, those bergers are surprisingly accurate and expand nicely on impact

Been shooting a 6.5 for about six years now. I date back to before you had more options like you do now. I use the 129 gr. SST from hornady for hunting works well lots of dead deer with it.

Ive had four deer killed w the sst and everyone of them blew up on contact. If they had been marginal shots I would’ve never found a drop of blood

I shoot the Hornady 143g eld-x. Dropped 2 opening weekend. Nasty little round.

Only had one for a few months, but I'm shooting Remington Core-Lokt 140 GR.

When looking at the ballistics and the reputation the 6.5 Creedmore has at long distances, I was surprised to see that my 300 WSM had less drop at 200 yds (1.3 in. vs. 1.9 in).

Early Bird, that .300 is burning a whole lot more powder. It isn’t that the 6.5 is so incredibly flat, it’s that it’s extremely aerodynamic and is flat in relation to the amount of powder burned. Extremely efficient cartridge. If you want a 6.5 that’ll run ultra flat, look at the 6.5-300 WBY.

And likely at least double the recoil. Energy comes at a cost. The 6.5 isn't black magic. Its just a very efficient caliber. Its like the old saying goes
"the funny thing about recoil is that almost everyone shoots better with less of it"

ETA: I shoot the Hornady 143 eld-x in my 6.5 HMR
