Good luck. You just single handedly made him miss out on making some good money.

I did mine for $2500 for 188 linear feet. I'll offer my services for a thousand over material costs.

Just do it yourself. I got a few bids in Lafayette last year, and like you, was shocked to see the estimates.
I priced out the wood on sale and bought all of the tools I needed. It took me three months, but I saved about 3500

What GVT says. Did over 300 linear feet with two gates. Took about three months.

He gave me a 32$ per linear foot bid from a family friend.
That is crazy high for pine. I think I paid around $26/ft. for a overlapping cedar pickets trimmed out with 6x6 posts. If he is a family friend I would get two other bids and show him how high he is. Maybe he will come down and you can still use him.

I just finished building mine on Sunday. Saved about $3500 and took me about two months of consistent weekend work. Every bid I got was between $28-$32 per linear ft (North LA)

Not sure about North LA but as said, in BR area anything over $15-18 per foot for pine is you getting it dry.
Try the site thumbtack.com. Usually, can find a young guy with some pics of previous work that is looking to hustle and will undercut everyone else.

Price does seem high. Let us know if you find someone good. I need to get one replaced in BR sometime in the next six months.
