Many of you are familiar with the Hell Divers Rodeo but this year we are mixing it up a bit.

Rodeo dates are May 30th - June 2nd

The rodeo weigh-in will take place in Venice, at Venice Marina on Saturday June 2nd.

In addition to our usual highly competitive spearfishing competition we are opening it up to rod and reel anglers for 4 categories. Redfish, Specks, Red Snapper, and Mangrove Snapper.

If you're going to be down in Venice the first weekend in June, consider signing up.

$55 for spearfishing and $25 for rod & reel

Cochon Du Lait, Live Band, and Beer Saturday night at the Marina

They could have at least spelled cochon de lait correctly.

Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic will be down there the same weekend at Cypress Cove. Should be a good time for anyone that wants to come check out some big fish and incredible boats.

Same weekend as Cajun Canyons, I would hate to be a miller lite in Venice that weekend. I will certainly be partaking.

I'm just hoping we have good weather

It's looking like this could be one of our biggest rodeos yet. I'm pumped

My two sons & I fished with Capt Roc. (Louis) about 4 or 5 years ago in East Bay for mangrove. Left Venice marina around 6 and where back at 10am with 30 mangrove, 6 red snapper, 10 redfish all in 40-45 feet of water. I knew he was a Hell Diver from long ago and after seeing you post about the rodeo this year looked at the website and top 10 list and he is a fish killing machine.

Hell yeah he is!

He called me on like a Tuesday or a Wednesday a few years ago saying "hey I know where this big Cubera Snapper is and we're going get him, you in?" I was still in school and had an exam the next day. At 2:30 the next afternoon he sent me this picture:

I fished with Louie last Friday. Had not seen him since the last year they had spearfishing in the GITR (1996). Was good to catch up and talk about the good ole days. Hell Divers vs Git"Em divers. Had some epic show downs at the weigh in's & parties after the rodeos.

You guys should also make a Lionfish category...not size, but quantity!

I have some friends who are big time free diving spear fishers...probably going out Monday. Have gone with a guy who's big into this tournament, but I can't remember his name, I'll ask. The friend he brought with him spent time on the boat floor green as frick.

I go out so my friends can dive and shoot my limit, and be there if something goes wrong. We go out 70 or so miles from BSL, down through Curlew and out to the rigs, in a 10 yr old single engine boat. It's sketchy, but both these guys are oceanographers and civilian Navy divers...so we got this.

I'm out, but I'll send them the posters.

I haven't spearfished in at least 6 years, but this makes me want to go again. I may not fish, but I'll be down there for sure.
