Cool deal. Like I said, it's probably something simple that you can fix in your yard with a little time and maybe a few tools.

if you want to check the firing, take the spark plug out and plug the wire back onto it...let the plug rest on the metal engine and hit the starter....as the motor spins over, you should see a spark jumping across the gap....my guess is that this will not be the problem, but if it is firing, you have basically narrowed the problem to a fuel problem...
Ive done this many times (works best in the dark), but for a newby he needs to know that there is some serious and potentially dangerous voltage at the end of that spark plug.

Go buy a book and teach yourself about your fuel.system. tedious at first but with it. I been off a while recovering from surgery amenities just about memorized every inch of that 350 In my pickup.

First things first. What kind of bike is it? You sure you have a carb or is it fuel injected?

What kind of bike is it (make/year)? Has it been sitting up for a while?

Okay fellas. I have been out of pocket this morning.
I have a 2007 Honda Grizzly 400 Auto 4x4. The last two years, I have pulled about 5 other people out of the woods.....but, yes, I let it sit too long.

If it's a Grizzly then its a 450. Carb is gummed up. Not really a big deal. I've got a 2005 Kodiak with the same motor. The carb is simple to remove/clean. Drop it off at my house with $100 Taped to it, will be running in no time.

I learned this lesson the hard way after letting mine sit up. I'm still battling issues. Mainly because I abused it when I first got it and was into HARD mudriding. Check your vent lines on the carb. I had dirt dobbers plug it up. Taking a carb apart isnt hard. I got a service manual off of ebay and it's been a life saver. Check out the Highlifter forums. They've got a large member base and alot of knowledgable people. The Yamaha board gets alot of traffic.

Highlifter is good but
www.grizzlyriders.com is better (for specific Grizzly info)

You shouldn't have to take the carb off or apart if it's just a lil gummed up
Posted on 5/3/11 at 10:23 am to DownshiftAndFloorIt
True but a good cleaning after sitting up for a while isn't a bad idea.

You'll never get everything out of the jets if you don't.

^That...might as well not half-arse it. Remove the carb, remove the bowl, remove the jets, flush out all the passages and ports with carb cleaner, flush and clean the jets, some have really small holes, if you cant get the jet cleaned out try boiling it...or just buy a new jet for a few bucks. Check make sure the float valve can move easily and isn't hanging up. After all that reassemble the carb and reinstall it on the bike. Be sure to tighten all your boot clamps to prevent air leaks. Also if it's sat a while I suggest draining the old gas out the tank, flushing it out a time or two and refilling with fresh gas.
I know it sounds intimidating but if you have common sense, basic tools and an hour or two it can be done. You'll feel great because you've fixed your own shite and save yourself atleast $100 or more that a shop would have charged. If in doubt, buy a shop manual.

Which is it? A Honda or a Grizzly? Don't ferget to take the tank off and flush it out. Including the fuel shutoff valve.

While I appreciate your opinion (and you may prove to be correct), there is no better feeling then knowing how to work on your own shite. It's not that complicated and with the aid of the internet there is absolutely every bit of information you could ever need out there.
