3 hour wait today. Don't go if you need it done quickly. School staff trying to get fingerprinted this week too

If you go, go first thing in the morning. Today the wait was about an hour.

My applications has been there since the second week of February. I actually talked to two different officers with LSP last week about this.
The budget cuts hit them hard and staff was drastically cut. The legislature found some money last week and they are now apparently going to staff the CC applications. The asinine thing about this is that my name was not logged in the system yet, meaning my certified check has not been deposited into the state's revenue stream yet. The Captain I spoke with on Friday told me they had "rooms of applications" with checks in them that they simply cannot get to.

I'm assuming this is somewhere in LA, do you have to go to a specific place? Here in TX, there are a lot of places to get it done in DFW. I got mine done at a booth inside Defender Outdoors shooting range. In and out in about 15 mins.

I was in and out in 5 minutes in Houma.

I wonder how long a certified check if good for, aren't most checks like 180 days?

Is there a way to check the status online? I just mailed mine last week, so I'm not expecting anything until January, but I'd like to be able to at least see a status of it, even if it says "received" until they get to mine.

Does anyone know if the LSP responds to their emails? I sent an email a few days ago asking for an update on my status, but they've not yet responded. It's really difficult for me to call while at work during the day.

I believe they normally only have like 3 people working CC applications. I took mine the last weekend of September 2015 and got mine back the first week of November. I have a coworker who sent his stuff in March and hasn't heard anything. I hope they get some of the backlog eaten up. My wife sent hers in this week and I told her she may get it for Christmas.

So I'm not sure what this means or what it does to the budget cut narrative.. But this was my timeline all dates 2016.
7/16 Class
7/18 Submit app
7/20 Fingerprints at LSP HQ
7/21 Paid for Permit
7/30 Received permit in mail
On 7/20 I got to LSP at 8am and was done by 9:45.

Do you have to go to the main LSP office in BR or can you go to any district LSP office for the fingerprints?

As of Friday of last week, my application that was sent mix February was not in the system. Once I asked the gentleman that called me if they had the funds I sent in and was sitting on the application, I was told no. The reason this was the case is that once they open the package of is logged into the system. This is the only way they have to determine if an applicant has paid or not.
I can say without question that the two different LSP officers that I talked to last week showed exceptional customer service and understand what it is the residents are going through with these budget cuts.

They open at 8am but you can go sit in the lobby before that and they keep track of who was there first. When I send employees for a background check, I always push them out the door of the office at 7am and they go straight there and wait. Anytime after 8am and there is usually an hour or more wait.
ETA: don't even think of going around lunchtime

I'm spitballing here, but I bet one of the things the staff does do is cash the checks before stacking the apps in a room, lol

My renewal went like this:
5-3-16 app submitted
5-24-16 notified it was accepted. This email went to spam for some reason so I didnt see it until 6-24-16 because I assumed they were behind.
6-24-16 found email and paid $125 and usury fee of $3
7-29-16 received renewal in mail
I noticed they use the pic from your state issued DL and not the pic passport type pic originally used in years past CCL's.

I had to take a trip to BR one morning for work anyway so I went early and went to LSP HQ....this is well known to be the fastest way and it is also pretty well known that if you mail in a card (even an electronically printed card) this is what starts the processing slow down.

Liar
My wife said she talked to people while I was out getting us some lunch and she was in line. EBR school employees were getting background checks for the start of school. So I would wait until school starts and then try to get fingerprinted. The wait time should be much shorter after this run of school people is over.
