I know the guy's family who killed it, they kill a lot of huge deer. They hunt Davis or Diamond Island can't remember which one.

from Louisiana Deer Hunters facebook page
"Killed in area 1 this morning at 8:30. Biggest bodied deer I’ve killed at 268lbs."

That’s an expensive deer. I’d say he paid around $7500 for it

Had a buddy’s dad who killed a 253 lber in Desoto parish a couple of years back. Shitty 7 point non-typical rack but son of a bitch looked like a cow

His dad and grandad are both Dentists from Ruston, they've been hunting over on the river since the 70's.

That deer probably cost a lot more than $7500 to someone

I have a few cows that would weigh more than that he could shoot for half the money. I can also pretty much guarantee the meat would also be better.

To be a member of a club on Davis Island? Are there any clubs left that don't make you buy share?

You can get em that big without being directly on the river. We’ve killed a few over 270. The keys are being in the delta and proper management.

Not uncommon. My brother and I had a stretch where it seemed like everything we killed was 250-280. We hunt delta and hill land... The hill land does have a pretty good creek bottom running through it that produces heavy deer.

Witnessed a 275lb 8pt killed <10miles from the river a few years ago. I killed a 165lb doe the same weekend.

Are folks actually putting these deer on scales or just guesstimating the weights? Not saying they aren't weighing that but it takes an absolute helluva bodied deer to go 250+. In all my life of hunting I've only seen a handful that actually went over 250 on a scale. Helluva deer in the pic btw

A 6-7+ year old deer anywhere in the delta will likely weigh 250 plus early season. Once the rut hard they can lose 20-30lbs pretty quickly.

Heck of a deer Speck. I've never hunted the Delta. I just always notice folks around here where I live claiming weights of 250+ on what seems like every decent buck they kill. Even with us having a Michigan strain of whitetails in the public land around me its rare to ever seen one actually go over 250. I bet its a sight to see getting to see bruisers like that walking around

Membership alone cost a million , when available at Davis island or winterquarters . Also have to pay yearly dues . I'm out , I do go as a guest . Strict rules on bucks . Members get 5 bucks and 9 does . Shoot an undersized buck and it counts as 2 and cost you $ 500 .
