But in the age of suppressors, why limit yourself to a .243 or less? Even a kid can shoot a 300 mag with a suppressor.

My kids (11 and 15} both shoot 270win and 7mm rem mag. Both are braked and less recoil than the 243. I got the 243 for myself last year. I'd have no issues using it.

I can feel it in the back of my skull from here.

I detest muzzle brakes. Gimme the recoil.

HaHa! One of my deer hunting handguns is chambered in 284 Win w/ a 16" barrel w/ a muzzle brake. I was excited to put a suppressor on it. Unbraked, the recoil and muzzle jump were significant. I couldn't hunt in a stand unless it had pretty tall window openings. OTOH, when it was braked, there was no muzzle rise, but the muzzle blast was really rough. You had to have your hat on tight and nothing else on the shooting table or it'd all blow away. W/ the Dead Air Nomad suppressor, it's very pleasant w/ little recoil and no muzzle rise.

Bc even with a can the recoil is still there albeit not quite as much. A suppressed 300wm is still going to have a good kick. Take it from someone who just set 3 scopes on 3 different lightweight 7PRC's this morning. They were all suppressed and after a few shots you definitely notice it affecting you. We all shoot better with less recoil. Doesn't matter who you are. My balls have dropped enough to know it don't take a howitzer to kill a 175lb deer. My deer hunting this year will be done with a Tikka .223 and 77gr TMK's and a Seekins PH3 in 6mm Creedmoor shooting 105gr Berger's and im more than confident that they'll do their part if I do mine

My balls dropped enough to know that my 300 WBY killed a 240 pound whitetail and a 6x6 bull elk last year.
I’m sure you shoot those rifles well. Have a great season.

Can feel that rattling my brains around from here as well.

Maybe one day soon suppressors will be sold in blister packs next to the skittles in the checkout line at cabelas. It's basically the only thing Europe gets right on gun laws.

I agree wholeheartedly on the elk. If I went on an elk hunt tomorrow I absolutely would be carrying a larger rifle. Just never felt the need on whitetails. Congrats on a great season last year and good luck on this years as well

Nothing short of a damn shame how difficult they make it to get a can. Hopefully that change is coming. They absolutely should be sold in blister packs or a grab bin beside the register at every gun store

I wear plugs and muffs at the range so it's really not bad. In the woods I don't wear anything because I like to hear the deer coming. One or 2 shots a year hasn't affected my hearing yet. I can hear a deer walking or grunting well over 50yds away. Maybe I should try those game ears or whatever it is.

When they sell suppressors on the shelf I'll buy a few. Until then the brake is fine.

Oh I can still hear great… I just hear a lot of ringing too sometimes. I think it was mainly from standing next to my buddy as he shot his 30-06 abolt with a boss.

You won’t like any electronic protection though. The best thing is to keep some earplugs around your neck and if you have time, put them in. If not, oh well.

Better question, in the age of cheap premium optics, why do I need a big magnum? All of them were invented to chase “flat” trajectory and MPBR before scopes could repeatably dial. Last weekend two does hung side by side, one shot with a 35 whelen and the other with a 6.5 cm, and you couldn’t tell the difference in the wounds, so what is the extra powder really gaining? If you want penetration, shoot bonded or copper. If you want bang flops, shoot frangibles. You are NEVER going to reliably achieve both with the same bullet, no matter what is stamped on it.

I don’t think suppressor companies want them deregulated. They’d go out of business overnight

I still have my grandfather’s.257 Robert’s Imp(Ackley) that he built. Great gun for deer.

Now this I disagree with. It can definitely be attained with horsepower.

Terrible option for deer at 800 yards.
Because the bullet has little mass, it has less than 700 lbs of energy at 800. Terminal bullet performance would suck.
Nice steel ringer though.
