Lots of bears. The mules in town aren’t as plentiful but more large bucks than previous years. I’ve seen a good bit of elk in teller but all cows. Saw a moose in divide a month or so ago. They are telling us here it’s a La Niña season so we should expect cold and wet. Did see one trophy bull elk in monument. All my friends hunt so this might be my first year. Horse back hunting scares me, though.

I was super shocked to see a moose not far from where you are but my friends that own the property said they see a few a year on top of all the elk. I’ve woken up to huge elk around my tent in divide.

Just got back earlier in the week from a elk/Muley trip. Hunted from the 2nd thru the 10th. Elk weren’t super active heard a few bugles. Had one answer me and come charging in on string late one afternoon. Stopped at 17yds and started raking a tree and I had no clear shot could only see from shoulder up to head. Tried to move over a get a clean shot. Arrow ended up hitting a branch and deflecting to the right. We had 2 other opportunities on bulls just couldn’t close the deal warmed up as the week went on and activity seemed to slow down. Mule deer were almost non-existent to what we’ve seen in years past. Locals said with all the rain they’ve had over the summer the cougar kill on mule deer was much higher than normal.

went to Colorado for a week for the first time back in June. Loved the drive and visit. I saw deer everywhere From New mexico to Colorado. Hwy 9 Hwy 24 I-70

Saw some nice mule deer just chilling under some trees on the road side (104 and 122) in Guffey Co. Such beautiful country. I could have just sat there all day

Where were you hunting? The cat theory on mules is interesting.

South central CO. The meadows where the water holes we hunted over the grass is usually knee height when we go this year it was damn near chest high over most of the meadow and the locals said it makes for the mountain lions to kill a mule deer much easier for them to get close to them. Didn’t think the mountain lion kill would be that much but we read something while we were up that that said hunters in CO kill about 70/80k mule deer/elk a year while the mountain lions kill upwards of 155k a year of mulies/elk

After posting about how dead it was - I call in a lone elk late in the afternoon the next day. I proceed to miss a nice 5 x 6 at 80 yds with a muzzleloader.

Poor poor pitiful me!

Been there. As my buddy who called the bull in said, "you could already smell the sausage cooking, couldn't ya?"

We got back last week. I ate tag soup (mule deer), but my buddy got a nice one. The 2 guys that drew elk tags both killed nice bulls. both right at 300".
Draw unit.
