I never like trucks when they first come out. Always takes me a year or two to like new.
Not that impressed

I've been doing a good bit of research on this new truck. Ford is not using regular aluminum, but high strength military grade aluminum. It will be a lot less subject to dings and dents so you may not even need paintless dent repair. Plus with 700 lbs less weight to pull you're going to get better mileage, better acceleration and higher payload and towing capacity.

I'm wondering how that lighter body will factor into rear wheel traction? It's pretty easy now to "light em up".......especially on wet pavement.
I was pissed off this morning and smashed the gas on my 09 and burned out for about 1/4 mile
I know........I'm a cool SOB.

Those headlights might be the worst thing I've ever seen on a truck.

Sounds interesting......also sounds expensive. I hope Ford doesn't screw this up.
My point about insurance premiums is that more expensive body work will get passed onto the customer indirectly like they do with more exotic or rare vehicles.
On the other hand, if they can save 500-700 lbs.....that may mean the difference between needing a smaller or larger engine, which may help the consumer recover some of those additional costs.

wow, there is a lot that goes into that
initially, it is all about torque
for instance, 10 years ago when my dad and I started restoring our 71 'cuda we knew we wanted to put a hemi in it, but the only hing on the market were cast iron blocks, come to find out we geta call from keith black motors and they said they were putting out the 511ci aluminum blocks that year, so we waited and got our hemi done with the almumnum block
that engine went from 800lbs with cast iron, to 500lbs with aluminum, we were blown away
the lighter weight creates obviously creates more available HP, but I don't know the specs on the new engines
i just wish Mopar would make a aluminum truck

I deal with subcontractors all day who can't take simple instructions.

That is what they were thinking...or hoping. High strength steel frame. I read where they dropped the 6.2 for 2015 "for now". But I also heard they were were planning on a total of six engines. What they announced so far is a 3.5 V6 (non Turbo), a 2.7 all new Eco Boost V6, the 3.5 Eco Boost and the 5.0 V8. Maybe a diesel down the road. Ford now develops all of their diesels in house now so they could have a surprise coming.

They will probably drop a HiPo version of it in a Raptor type high dollar limited production vehicle. Won't hurt their CAFE but help their bank account.

Looks like they took a Ram body, put a Tundra front end on it, then painted it a queer candy apple red. No thanks.

Interesting badge on the front fender or door of that white KR. Almost looks like a Power Stroke emblem from the Super Duty.
