Guy in my office is probably going to be selling his f150 in the coming months. It has 85xxx miles on it. What would one desire to pay for a truck like this?

I am being mindful of the fact that I will start putting more miles on it that he has as I drive about 300 miles a week to and from work. I am currently driving a 2007 Ford but it isn't full sized or 4x4.

Have him change the plugs first. They had a problem breaking in the heads. Probably due for a set at this mileage.

I think you mean 5.4

I had a 2009. Put 150k on it before I upgraded. Put plugs in it around 75k, then again at 100k because of a misfire, just went ahead and did them all again. Turns out, me being a broke college student at the time, I was using cheap oil and filters. Cardboard from the filter had made its way into the head and had stopped up some of the ports. Causing me to replace the entire right side head to the tune of $3000.

I still put another 50k on it before I upgraded. Besides a water pump, brakes...it was a great truck.

Depending on trim level, condition I would assume he would be asking from $12-15k for it. Probably not a bad deal. I had a lariat, when I traded it in in 2014 they gave me $11k

Yeah I think the truck has been well taken care of. He bought it brand new and it gets serviced at the dealership. I just don't have a lot of familiarity with that motor and year model.

Just updated my post regarding pricing.

Check autotrader and cars.com for comparable.

If that he the case, consider it as new.

If you do all of the maintenance that is scheduled you're replacing almost everything before an issue develops.

I would change all belts, hoses, coolant, drain and fill trans and diffs, and roll with it.

Id say 10-12K

I had an 09 F150 Lariat FX4 drove it for about 125K and my uncles is still driving it to this day.

The only problem I ever had was a power steering fluid leak. Since then unc told me the gas needle stopped working.

It has to have close to 200k on it now.

I sold mine for 12k about 3yrs ago.

I just sold one for $10,800. Same setup. Had 154k on it and needed a set of tires and the the seam on the leather drivers side seat to be sewn.

Mid 2019 they swapped something on the motor. You can tell by the air filter box. Round vs square. I believe its the square you want cause it was easier to change the plugs. I had the better one(by luck) so it was a lot cheaper to change plugs. I did it at 100k

great truck and a great buy but not the best for your needs for work transportation

dont buy a 4x4 for lots of highway driving, they tend to have high rates of 4wd failure when you do that, they just arent designed for lots of interstate highway use

lots of idiots here will disagree but just look at the forums where all the posters are complaining about shite failing when the guys using it off road and not on the interstate all the time dont have those same failures

regardless of "opinions" you cannot deny actual failure rates reported from 4wd used as high mileage highway vehicles

if you need a truck to put 1500 miles a week or more then get a 2wd or buy a car for a work vehicle of keep your current vehicle just to use for work
