Congrats!
I can’t wait until Friday to get back in the woods. This isn’t my style of hunting, but my gf loves coming here to get away so I figured I’d make her happy before I leave for another week. Ended up killing 3 snipe. Got plenty shots but they’re damn near impossible to hit with #3 steel shot. Still fun though.

Entrance was lower than I wanted. But smoked the heart. I didn’t even try keeping the heart.

About 5 minutes after I posted this morning, this buck walked out on the logging road I was watching. I dropped him where he was from about 60 yards out. First buck I've seen (excluding spikes and button bucks) in two years. Glad to get one on the ground today. I didn't know he had one antler (A_bear is a better man than me to pass up a one horn buck). The missing antler looks like it broke off when it was in velvet. I plan to shoot one more deer this year, but I'll dial it back to just buck hunting the next 2-3 weeks or take a late season doe. This guy reeked pretty bad. A lot of scraping and rubs showing up.

We have 2-3 hammers. That’s all I’m going to shoot the rest of the year. And I’ve had one of them in camera near where I was this morning. I’m about to go do some walking Thursday and try to peg where he’s going to!

Thanks man. We’re not rutting yet. I’d say pre rut. Some bucks interested, may have a doe getting in heat. I saw two solo bucks and a pack of 3 does this this morning. Next two weeks should be really good though!

I’m back in Houma cooking a gumbo and drinking an old fashioned.Pdub and whoever else is the area, we should get together for some drinks one evening.

Is that really a thing when deer hunting?

Ducks = yes
Deer = no

Congrats on a fine buck! I had a similar situation last year in December. He was moving right to left at 20 yards 1 minute into legal shooting time. I thought he was a symmetrical 8 I had on camera. I didnt realize he was broken off until I retrieved him. Even if I had seen the broken tines I woulda shot him! Ha!

Very nice. Haven’t made a bow hunt all year. Back home in Terrebonne parish for Christmas, so gonna try one in the morning, since ducks are so slim.

That's a good buck! Sometimes you don't have time to study the deer and make a shot at the same time. Where I was hunting, I only had a few moments to decide before he walked out of the logging road back into the woods. Knowing how things have been this past year, if I passed this buck up, I wouldn't have seen another deer yesterday.
