I took the week off to hunt. I need 2 more deer for the freezer. Bucks are pretty locked down right now. Not sure how picky I’m going to be. Might just see what the movement is like today and tomorrow before I start laying down small bucks and does.

It’s a beautiful morning though.

Good luck gents

In my saddle in a spot I’ve killed a couple bucks in over the years. Had a spike come by while I was getting set up. Got in a little late because I had to stop a couple times on the 4 wheeler to warm my hands up.
Got a couple small bucks on camera around 3am, working a scrape. Maybe a good one will come hit it too.

Same. I go back and work Friday-Sunday night, then Monday morning I’m heading back up here for 2 weeks of bucks only. Cant wait for that.

I wish I had so many deer I could just pick the day of the week I’m going to stack them up. Guess I’ll have to wait for my annual South Texas trip next week to feel that way.

Back at work, y'all get em! I'll be thinking about my approach for the remainder of the season now that the rut is over. I still haven't solved it, where to be and when. All I learned yesterday is hunt the side of I65 before sun up and as the sun sets on a new moon. Not sure that'll work out.

Been a busy morning.

Had a doe and a nice buck come through around 60 yards. The buck was locked onto the doe. He wouldn’t let her get 5’ away from him.

After they worked off it’s been a steady parade of small bucks trailing them.

Saddle w/platform overlooking a watering hole in mixed hardwoods
Mathews V3X 33 paired with Tuffhead Evo 2.0 200 grain broadheads

I went back to the scene of the crime where I took a decent 7-point this past Friday. I saw 4 bucks that day before 10:30am so I'm going to go back a few more times to see what happens.

Today, I only saw 1. He was a little 6-point that came in and stuck around for about 20 minutes. He made a scrape and rubbed his antlers in the bushes where I killed the buck just a few days ago. I have a feeling there's a really nice one that's going to come through, so I'll come back here later this week.

A stud came across the field right at legal light. Didn’t feel comfortable taking the shot. Too early in the season to risk a bad shot.
