start with the filter,
then the pump and when you replace the pump you will need a new filter do not run the semi old one with a new pump.

Sisters 03 did this. Fuel filter plugged. Eventually it shut the vehicle down. Then we had to turn off and recrank

I was gonna change the fuel filter in this 05 Tahoe that I was fixing up for my sister because it had a little stutter at idle sometimes. Found out it was connected to the sending unit, and told the Auto Zone guy to GFY.

Run some good fuel system cleaner through it, clean the upper intake with Seafoam in vacuum hose, pull throttle body and clean, clean MAF(with electric parts cleaner), etc. Just walk around and clean everything

This is not a shadow, that is carbon buildup like a bitch inside the TB. About to spray and clean, and add the lucas treatment. After Deadliest Catch is off of course. Hammertime, I appreciate you helping out a fellow yaker .

Go frick Yourself. I am gonna pee in your boat when you aren't looking

Get some carb cleaner(I use chemtool) and a toothbrush and shove it up your arse. When you're done, take that MAF and some electrical cleaner and try and see if you can swallow them

There should be fuel filter under body located on the frame on the drives side. Start there.

PS, if you don't have a way to get the thing up in the air, don't try to drop the tank.

Those bastards put the filter in the tank, starting in 05 I think? I would love to do it, but definately not dropping the tank myself. Going to clean out the TB in a minute and hope it solves the problem.

how does a throttle body go out? It's a piece of metal.

Carbon buildup is extremely common in the throttle body. It comes from the PCV IIRC.

My phone is acting up, but look up the pics.

Some vehicles you have to replace the throttle body because electrical parts fail and you can't replace just the electrical stuff on the throttle body.
I've had to replace a few ford throttlebodies. drive by wire motors and throttle position sensors go out and cannot be replaced

Had a 99 chevy truck that would have very rough starts and get sluggish every once and a while at around 110k miles. Fuel system cleaner additives cleared it up for me. Really inexpensive solution for my problem. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Usually the fuel filter is on the frame rail. I know there's a strainer on the "foot" of the in-tank fuel pump. Every time I've had a fuel pump go out, the engine would be hard to crank, since the pump couldn't pressurize the system first. Once it was running, it was fine.

I'd look for that filter first. Change that..and I've seen a few mentions of the throttle body and the carbon build-up issue...that too causes issues.

That might be it. The throttle body on my wifes Escape went out and the car would stumble then you'd lose all control with the gas pedal.
this is a totally different issue with the throttle body than what is being mentioned with the carbon buildup. The throttle body is a fly by wire design,in other words no throttle cable. The gas pedal has a potentiometer that sends an electric signal to the electric motor on the throttle body to open and close it.

Carbon buildup will only cause a bad idle situation. No performance issues will arise from a severely carboned up throttle body.
