Amit Elore advanced to the quarter finals with a 10-2 win in women's freestyle and Adam Koons wrestles later on in Greco-Roman.

Sorry about that but the news is a few hours old. Coon got eliminated and Amit won an 8-0 match and is in the semi's. She is a lot of fun to watch. Only 20 and a 2 time world champion.
These are the only 2 Americans scheduled for today.

He could still get pulled back in the repechage if his first opponent makes the finals, which is a possibility since he is the reigning world champ and the 1 seed.

EDIT: Just saw that his opponent lost, so yeah Coon is out.

Also, Stevan Micic (former Michigan wrestler, competing for Serbia) was the 1 seed at 57 kilos in freestyle and had to drop out today because of a knee injury.

I hate that. He's a fun guy to watch and does a really nice job with his social media. Posts a lot of interesting and informative stuff about all types of wrestling.

I jnow it’s hard to abandon folk style, but we need to just switch the HS and college system to Freestyle.

I know most of them do both, epsically in the offseason, but at this level, experience and reps matter.

I agree. Wrestling is like all other sports it's year around and so many high level tournaments in the spring and summer are freestyle or greco. Plus these kids start wrestling when they are 5 years old. It just makes sense.

I agree but only because the rest of the world doesn’t wrestle folk style. However, I prefer folk style to freestyle and both to Greco-Roman.

I like the aspect of both offensive and defensive strategy on bottom and not just defensive like in freestyle.

What Americans are we expecting to medal?

I watched the Amit Elor matches, she is a badass.

After state, they spend the entire spring and summer on freestyle and Greco.

Will wrestling in these games get an * without the Russians or is the field strong enough without them to make it legit in most people's eyes?

I am aware.

Thats half a year vs year round. And they’re very different sports. I dint know many olympians who spend only half their time training in an event for the first 22 years.
