Florida alumnus erin Jackson won gold in speed skating by .08 of a second. She is also the first woman of color to do so. Congratulations erin

Good for her.

What’s her story going to UF?

She didn’t start skating on ice until 2016. She was an in-line skater long before that.

I did find it annoying how she was lauded in a commercial because she was black. Why can’t people just celebrate that she’s awesome. It just degrades her and reduces her to subjecting her to her genes that she has no control over.. I would be pissed as a black woman. She seems like a great girl though. Nothing like that chump that got 3rd in and pouted on the medal stand ms because she got wrecked by fat white women

Nah. It is a legit accomplishment to have black people start winning things in the winter olympics. It's really not that different than the excitement around the Jamaican bobsled team back in the day - except she's actually good.

Wish they would have focused on that more. The dutch are really good because of their canals. Would be kinda awesome if she had an edge on account of this, ha ha.

They may have in 2018, when she was just breaking into the sport. Last night i caught the Jacksonville news doing a story on all the Ocala skaters, and their youth coach. Apparently there were 3 speed skating medal winners from horse country, Florida.

As to the girl OP is talking about, apparently gonna get into bionic limbs for amputees. Got, or is getting, a degree in kinesiology and computer programming, to go with her engineering degree from UF. Seems like she's gonna be pretty ok when she decides to hang up the skates.
