Will the moratorium cause more damage than the oil spill itself?

Its looking more and more like the long term economic effects of a 6 month moratorium are much worse than the oil spill. Rather than having a few thousand seafood and tourist interests affected we now have 10's of thousands of oil workers affected. And BP should pay for a lot but no way in hell should they pay oilfield workers who lose jobs because of this. This is squarely on the shortsightedness of Obama.

The problem is that no one knows if will last longer than six months. So yes it is going to cause long term economic damage.

I don't think it even lasts six months. Call it a hunch.

It doesn't matter. Rigs are already leaving and won't come back for years.

possibly
laying off thousands of men and women that work offshore and in the office in the affected regions that make $48K+ is pouring salt in the proverbial wound
I know our company is doing everything we can to move personnel and change job duties to avoid laying off people in our mud/drilling services side. Which is ironic because our land and production business units are bursting at the seams with growth

What the spill started the moratorium will finish. I dont see the current federal administration backing off the moratorium. They have an agenda and a disaster to back them up.

There is no "possibly"
If the six months moratorium is put into action it will be like cutting the head off of an already struggling economy(due to the oil spill)

I talked to a friend in the offshore boat service business today. He said they are lining up boats to move equipment out of the gulf and it will never come back.
Hello Brazil.
The moratorium is only afecting the deepwater rigs.
Yeah right.....

My uncle is a captain on one of Chouest's large OSV's and was asked if he had a current passport. Either headed to South Africa or Brazil.
