4 x 5 ft hat that will go over the leak on the riser and they will pump methanol to halt any freezing. Should stop about 85% of the leak if it works.

I am praying to the Good Lord (ban me if you wish) that this works. So much damage has been done ...

Is this in conjunction with the containment dome that had the problem with methanol freezing or the next plan, independent of the dome?

I think this has a much better chance at working. I had my doubts regarding the last one when I found out there was no anti-freezing element in their plan.

Methane is what was freezing. Methanol is to prevent it. Not sure what the plans are for the containment dome.

I think I read that the size of the dome should limit the amount of sea water that comes into play, which should make it easier for the methanol to be effective. So is the reason that methanol doesn't freeze essentially the same reason that ethanol doesn't? By ethanol I mean the bottle of vodka in my freezer

Good analogy, yes the alcohol content should help in stopping the freezing. water at 5k feet is 37 degrees I am hearing....not sure why they did not go this route first since they knew it would be an issue. That is what concerns me the most. Seems BP is only doing things they know worked at some point. Dispursants, etc.... all old technology. If I gotta pay for it, i am going with what I know worked in different applications rather than spending money on new technology. They should be doing this, that and the other.

According to the TP, it's on the seafloor and they are letting it sit to make sure that everything is okay. Robots will check to make sure the lines and everything are functioning and then they should get to work and know if it will be a working solution on Thursday.

Tick, tick, tick...........I just hope this is the idea that works.

yeah man, this has to work.... we can overcome this if we can get this to stop the majority of the leak within a week.

This design looks more workable than the last. Hope it works.

here's hoping this is THE fix. fingers crossed

got some quality Taaka in bottom of freezer been there for months, as liquid as could be...willing to donate for the containment effort either to be drank or pumped to seafloor.
