So there hasn't really been any developments on this today? No reports from stuff hitting land? All I saw were a few pictures on nola.com.

The oil on the surface will continue to spread, it is wind and current driven. However size is not important, it is density on the surface and whether the sheen is a light skimming or actual thick sludge.
Its bad, but I don't know how much you can really tell from a satellite as far as the amount of oil.
they show their work and use the USCG's assessment of oil thickness based on visibility. That's more than BP showed with their "oh, it's 5000" that they said on Thursday morning.

I'm pretty sure the LMRP is still on the BOP. There are hydraulic reservoirs that have been put on the sea floor for the ROV's to use in their operations with the BOP.
Deepest Atmospheric Dive Suit (hardsuit) dive is 2000', I think, to date. U.S. Navy.
The BOP get's lowered to the sea floor by the riser. Each riser piece is roughly 90' tall. So they make connection by connection until it's close to the well head. The last riser piece on the surface get's connected to rigs control systems and tensioners. The tensioners then lower the BOP onto the wellhead to be latched up.
In order to get the LMRP off of the BOP, They will need to cut off the riser that has fallen to the sea floor. Before any of that happens, they'll need to shut the well in.
I'm thinking nothing will be released to the press until they are in the clear with shutting the well in.

Going to go help along with a charter CAPT. Friend of mine.
Guess we'll be deploying barrier.
Whatever we end up doing I'll try to vet some pics to y'all from the iPhone.

SkyTruth is now estimating that Exxon Valdez has been surpassed... calculating a spill volume of 26000 bbl/day based on April 28's overflight map.
I suspect that Skytruth's website is run by enviro-whackos. Their estimates are far worse than everybody else's. I think they are pushing an antidrilling political agenda.

Mwaux, I was there earlier today. There was a whole lot of waitin' goin on, and not a lot of doin'. Pretty frustrating if you ask me. Hopefully, the boom material finally showed up. I ended up heading back to town while BP, USES, and MOP- UP, figured out who's on First.
Good Luck

once again, they show their work and explain how they reach their numbers
BP just said they estimate 5,000 bbl/day and didn't explain how they got to that number
I'm going to give more credence to the people who don't pull numbers out of thin air, even though I realize that the truth likely lies in the middle ground.

I'm going to captain John L Taylors place and he says he has 2500' of boom right now with more coming later.
