No, at home. It just says 'flikr' image currently not available'. What does it look like for Grand Isle. I got an e-mail last night to put a big order on hold, for an event, in Grand Isle in July.

they are almost finished closing the bop. just stop listening to the media. all they have left to do is close the annular.

I hope you are right.
When I heard someone on Fox News say they were going to deploy 25,000 miles of boom I stopped listening.

grand isle won't see anything from this for at least a week, I don't think. July is way too far out to know...

That's great, but what about all of the oil that's already in the water?

they will get it taken care of. b.p. has enough money to displace all the water in the gulf.

Im hearing the samples taken from the well are not the Sweet Crude Louisiana is known for? Instead its the thick tar type thats going to be a bitch for clean up?

I will try to find out a real number, but it is likely in the thousands of miles in length-double and triple barriers, following irregular coastline. Louisiana has around 400 miles of coastline if I remember from my now fuzzy days of knowing such things. So, if you add Mississippi, Alabama and west Florida, times multiple lines of booms, it might be only slightly embellished.

If true that is really amazing. (Considering that the circumference of the Earth is @25k miles)

That's what it would take but there is nowhere near that amount of boom available. That last time I did the math it was something like 180 miles of boom available.

That was kind of my thought on it.
(But what the hell do I know.)

Guys, is there anything I can do to help?

Man I hope you are right, but I don't get how this hasn't hit the media.
I know the media sensationalizes things, but you would think someone would want to break this story.

probably because BP doesn't want to say anything until it's closed... they don't want to give the impression that they lied to save public image if something else goes wrong

This came out on the poli-board yesterday from a different oil guy.
Some people here probably work for BP or TO. I don't know if some info is skewed or not.

I just received word that the additional use of an accumulator failed to close the hydraulic ram in the BOP. Apparently the hydraulic rams in the BOP are damaged. The rams are used to shear the riser and cut off flow. Apparently the step that is being taken now sub-sea is to cut the riser pipe and install a "smart flange" with a valve assembly. Once the mechanical flange is attached to the remaining riser the valved can be closed to shut off flow. This is easier said than done. If you've ever seen the movie Hell Fire with John Wayne then you'll have a good idea of how it's done on land. Now add 5,000 feet of water and 5,000 bbls/day flow to contend with and this task is extremely difficult (and slow). Let's just hope they (oceaneering) can get it done

the rams don't cut the riser. the riser does not go through the stack.

just heard another rumor that they are still trying. don't know who to believe.
anyway, i just want to try to bring something positive to this thread.

Not my info. I quoted it from Gumbopot.
Like I said, its hard to know who knows what.
Last I heard the BOP was going to close three days ago. Then this guy said this yesterday, not you are saying really good news, and I hope you are right.
But, we all need to filter through a lot of armchair-petroleum engineers to find the ones that know their stuff.
