A selfish question, what will this do to the price of oil/gas in the short term?

It's already up $3.00 just TODAY

Well, when you stop drilling and add this on top of it LINK prices could shoot up rather quickly.

It actually shouldn't jump up quickly. Stopping new drilling isn't disrupting current supplies. Wells that are already producing will still produce. Now if there is a long term shut down and you see some wells begin to draw down or some other cases where current production drops then you'll see prices come up because there are no new wells coming online to replace the old ones.

Well I will retract what I said about immediate impact.

We are fricked. Who is going to pay for all of these federal bailouts? I guess Obama doesn't quite understand the impact.

Teh oil companies should just get together and say frick it. Turn off flow on all wells until this decision is reversed. When you cut off the second largest revenue stream of the government maybe he will listen.

When they start screwing with the refineries, things start getting dicey.

Another case of the feds fricking us. LA should have shut it down weeks ago and demanded more money for taking on the risk.

Oil is a storable good, so even if it expected to have an effect 2 years from now, the effect (discounted at an appropriate rate) will be factored into the spot price of oil today.

I tried to keep out the upper level finance jargon, so sorry if it's a little vague.

Just recieved word that we may be TAing the well were presently on for 6 months. We're doing a smart well completion and haven't even frac'd the lower zone. It's not just affecting drilling.

That's what we're distressed about at work. Two weeks ago MMS told us we'd still be able to do sidetracks and completions (basically we could still work on any well where intermidiate casing had been set). So we moved three completions up on the schedule. Now it's looking like we won't be able to do anything for awhile.

The utter brilliance of out Gov and leaders fails us yet again. Really scared to see what new bs they come up with, heard they are even pushing for much stricter rules in production as well. Service companies and independents are going to take some big hits.

how much of this is pending safety reviews of deepwater drilling processes and how much of it is environmental politics?

I am on the Noble Paul Romano for Marathon and we are shutting down due to Obama. Sucks, now most of these guys will be out of work or if they are lucky will be placed somewhere else.
