"BP's "top kill" operation halted the flow of oil and gas from the stricken Deepwater Horizon rig Thursday, according to U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, cited in the Los Angeles Times."

there are three ships on site. you don't stop operations when one ship runs out to "hook up" ship number 2.

ONE SHIP PUMPS TO THE NEXT SO THAT OPERATIONS CAN RESUME.

Dollars and Cents. That is all. BP did not want to do this because it (anyone in the oilfield correct me if im wrong) nullifies all of the drilling they have done at this site. I spoke with a petro engineer who is a freind of my uncle a week and a half ago and he said they could have done this a month ago, but chose not to. They will be paying for that mistake for a long time it seems.

I find that very difficult to believe.

BP stock went up because an analyst upgraded it due to it's stock price going down.

(BP) was upgraded to Outperform from Perform at Oppenheimer, which said the stock's risk/reward appears more attractive at current levels. $55 price target.

Just passing on the information I was given. He told me that a topkill is more or less procedure for something like this. Now obviously the depths do create the subject of the "unknown" but he said this should have been done long ago.

That well has already been trashed, not to mention, they already started drilling two wells right after the explosion.

That is ignoring the potential for NEGATIVE outcomes (could make the leak WORSE).

That is like saying "surgery is the correct 1st answer to back pain". It may, indeed, turn out to be the right action, but one should try others first.

That was the question that I asked the guy who was telling me all that. I dont necesarily agree with the info I was given, because some of it didnt make sense to me, but thats what I was told.

FWIW, I am not in the oil & gas industry and dont pretend to be, this is all info I was given by someone who is.

Any idea on how long something like this usually takes? When might we know for sure if it worked?

We have a dock at C port. If that's what you mean.

Our boat "Blue Dolphin" is the stimulation boat that is pumping the mud to the hole. We will possibly be completing the well and providing pumping services for BP once the well gets to production. From what I understand.

Wait, what? What does that mean? I was thinking the top kill was going to seal this bitch up and we could move on forever. Do you mean production from the relief well?

when they stop pumping and the well is static.
but look, it's great that they're able to get at least some of the mud heading downhole.

the next trick will be getting cement spotted in there.
