Just announced by LDWF
Makes sense to me
LouisianaSportsman.com
At least now the fisherman can go check out the level of damage for themselves.

Good luck dude.
If you want live bait. You will probably need to pick some up in Golden Meadow on the way down. There is a bait stand just south of Golden Meadow on the two lane.

Just saw on the news that the LDWF is also requesting people tag the fish they catch. I think you can request tags from their website. Pretty good plan IMO.

what do you do if the fish dies while catching it? do you have throw it back in the water?

I guess it would be the same as if you had caught an undersized fish that dies........I guess the main point is they don't want you eating potentially contaminated fish. I'm not sure there is sound science behind this, but more of a CYA attitude so they don't have a million lawsuits should someone get sick.

This is good news of sorts. People will get out and go fishing and a truer picture of how bad or not so bad the impact on the fishery will be available for all to see via fishing reports that people post.
Hopefully this will dispell some of the falsehoods/speculation that is out there about the damage.
Conversely hopefully this will not prove that the specks redfish etc have taken a big hit in some area.
That sad part in all this is why it is closed in the first place. Biologist have said there is not risk in eating the fish. Samples so far have confirmed that assertion.
Right now you can fish devil swamp where the mud in the lake north of the turning basin has been shown to contain PCB's and other nasty chemicals. There you are allowed to fish and eat the fish.
Right now you can not keep any fish from the areas closed by the oil leak. These fish have been proven to be safe to eat. But you are not allowed to eat those fish.
What is the logic behind this? It makes no sense to allow people to eat potentially pcb contaminated fish while denying that privelege where there is no threat.
Makes you wonder if there is an ulterior motive.
