Jindal sounds a little upset with BP

Jindal press release on Emergency.Louisiana.gov

“We are moving forward with or without BP. We gave them two choices – they can either send us a check, get out of the way and let us start this work, or they can sign a contract and do it themselves. We are going ahead without them. Last night, we met with Admiral Allen and he said he feels like he is making progress in getting BP to actually pay for this work. To date, BP has done a great job in sending us press releases and attorneys, but they haven’t sent us any money to dredge.”

“Our people deserve to be fully compensated for their losses. Instead of BP shelling out $50 million on an ad campaign that promises to do good work in responding to this spill, BP should just focus on actually doing a good job and spend the $50 million on assistance to our people, our industries and our communities that are suffering as a result of this ongoing spill.”

I saw a couple of days ago a report that BP put a lot of money in an escrow account for the state to do it, stating that it was the state's job from there and that they would not be held liable for unintended consequences of the berm.

Probably have lawyers researching it to determine whether or not the government has the power to tell them to pay for these things.

Or trying to find some environmental law, or process to use to block them.

This.

BP sees La building sand berms similar to the bum who spits on your windshield and cleans it with a dirty pair of underwear when you are trapped at a red light.

The bum expects money, but you didn't want your car window washed with spit.

BTW, La is considered the bum with rotted teeth and BP is the nice owner in the nice car.

BP has agreed they will pay for all 6 segments of the berm. They signed a form saying they are not liable for any adverse affects the berm might cause.

They just havent given Louisiana any money yet

That's actually a pretty good analogy.

BP has sent 60M today to allow them to get started.

The dredge at east grand terre was already there and they were actually rebuilding the beach berm before they pump the marsh before all this mess.

I dont necessarily agree with building the berms but at least BP has sent some money towards the effort after they agreed a week ago to pay for it.

It may do some short term good but long term its detrimental to Louisiana coast.

Issues with long duration of the project, currents, coastal erosion, wildlife habitat from where the sand will come from, a suite of environmental concerns, could prevent the flushing of some oil out of the wetlands, and severely limits your chances for future federal funding for coastal restoration.

Focus the effort on the many tidal inlets and passes

I have yet to talk to a coastal scientist in favor of the plan

It seems a day late and a dollar short to me, and I have no idea how they could possibly expect them to last long term. Is there anywhere you can see the actual plans?
