Not sure is posted, but I heard about her idea about a week ago, and I see supposedly, she has gotten the attention of BP...

Something tells me that these "tires" at these depths, pressures, and temperatures aren't going to seal.

How is that going to work with drill pipe still in the hole? I would think there would have to be some effort to fish the drill pipe out before even attempting something like that which has probably been ruled as impractical at this point.

I feel stupider for watching that. Why not just use a giant piece of cork? Like DUH!

No they won't. Also "tires" aren't designed to withstand 2,200psi of pressure. They'd have to hold that just to overcome the water overpressure.

She might want to learn something about hydrates as well...

Why did she show up wearing one of those tires?

I would think the "tires" to be of a non-typical construction, but it's a matter of time and manufacturing a "tire" that would work may take too long.

I applaud the young lady for be pro-active, however. She's done more than we have.

Wonder where she is planning to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.6 million pounds of down force to hold them there??

I thought of a similar idea weeks ago. Although it was a little better than inflating tires. Her's won't work and it's not all that brilliant.

A. not your car tire
b. She said use a type of hydraulic fluid to inflate with. Maybe inflate with a rapid set cement.

Is there anyway to scare the oil into staying put?
This would work.

what about a suction pile they use for anchors? you think they can get the pipe cut and then put about 120 foot suction pile anchor over it and pump it down over the pipe ans contain it?

I'm no engineer, and I don't know how good or bad the idea is.

I would, however, be willing to frick Kiran Chetry if it would help the cause. And I'd let the fat chick watch if she wanted to FWIW.

"RE" or reactive element packers are in the industry now. Basically you have water swellable or oil swellable types of materials depending what will be in the well bore for them to react with. Problem is these types of packers don't have "slips" which are anchors which keep the packer from moving up or down the hole. There would be no way to keep that from shooting right out of the hole. If she got anyone’s attention with that idea, it was just so the press didn't accuse them of not listening to ideas.

For this idea to be anymore than a dream it would have to be something off-the-shelf. Relief wells are only a few weeks away.

Suction piles take lateral load, not axial. Couldn't resist the 10,000 psi well pressure pushing UP on it. It would pop out of the mud like a rocket!

That's the problem. Now every CNN-trained "oil production expert" will be on here saying "BP is ignoring good ideas that could stop the well. They are doing this on purpose. blah, blah, blah."
