This Aggie from Texas wants to thank you guys and gals for a very good discussion forum. Have learned much more here than on any other board and have met "online" some really fine people. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU. I am in the industry and hope that for all of you impacted by this FUBAR from BP that a full and good recovery is made and we all are able to keep our jobs. I hope there is a major recovery of the fishing and marsh lands. Thanks again for the hospitality.
MT, speculation, true, but to the most point he sounds spot on. Does not sound like this guy has any axe to grind.

Monkey, I guess your last sentence covered this pretty well, I am fairly certain that neither TransOcean or BP had a policy that said "If the well starts flowing let's just watch it blow and see how many people we can kill and how much ocean we can ruin".
There MAY have been design flaws in the well, some shortcuts MAY have been taken, BP MAY have made some errors in judgment, but in the end it was the hands on the floor (that are no longer here, sadly) that let this happen by not watching well conditions and FOLLOWING company procedure in shutting the well in. If they had been paying attention they would have seen the well flowing and shut it in BEFORE it blew out and put everyone in a position where they COULD NOT shut it in.
Kind of like if one of your hands drove a company vehicle drunk and killed someone, should YOU have to go to jail?????

Monkey, you need to back away from the medicine....the folks that ultimately allowed this to happen are very dead. They received the "Death Penalty" for their carelessness. Read the above posts and responses and you will maybe understand....maybe not, because you seem very angry... :banghead:

re: relief well vs. new containment cap

I am thinking it has to do with hurricane season. With the new hookup they SHOULD be able to abandon the flowback if a storm come and they have to bug out. The ultimate solution is the relief well and a permanent cap and or abandonment, but a storm would put this on hold as well. I think they are trying to keep their arse covered (a little late, but it is said we learn from mistakes)in case a storm disrupts opperations.

Greenhead, you sir are 100% correct and I am sorry those guys were killed, but SOMEONE on that crew SHOULD have seen the kick and shut it in WAY before they did (or tried). Being in deep shite for doing your job is not as bad as being dead!! They had to have a clue what was happening and were just asleep at the switch. I guess this is why they call them accidents...

Plus having control at the top will make the killing process much better. More control and faster kill.
That gives me a lot of confidence, those two looking over the shoulder of cementing engineers....wonder if they want to know how much pea gravel they are planning to use?? :banghead:
MT, I can't find it right this minute but I think it was somewhere in this thread [URL]LINK ], I also think they mentioned it in a video from BP on facebook where they were on the rig and talked to Mr. Wright about his part and experience in what he was doing. Sorry i can't be more exact but there is some pretty good info over on the site where that link takes you.
Mountain Tiger, sorry I have not been listening to Wells, I guess I was going with what John Wright (Boots & Coots) had said was the "common" procedure for doing this. I guess it was an "assumption" on my part....sorry for the bad info
It was my understanding that they were going to use casing guns to perforate the casing before pumping the kill mud, instead of trying to drill the casing with a mill.

Must be something in the air over here in Texas, there is some type of water running out my eyes. Sad, Sad story, hope all recovers and "Coon" can continue doing what he loves and does so well.

Simply put, they should have done the right thing and had they done that they would most likely be alive. Driller should have seen kick and shut the well in before it was too late. Basic well control, the signs were there.

Mr. LSU you also forgot to add he was appointed by Regan!!!!
As a neighbor who cares about as well as LOVES your state, I would love this and support it 100%. Maybe we could get our governor off his dead arse and do something like it as well because a lot of us are being hurt by the shutdown as well.
