Zillow is far from accurate. I just Zillow'd my own house and it has a price of over $400k for what I paid for it less than a year ago
.
And I've never heard of a 50 year mortgage out here. Ever. Not saying your wrong but if that's a thing, shite I should start buying houses out here and flipping 'em.

We almost moved to SoCal about 10 years ago when I received a job offer.
The real estate market shut that down. Life is too short to sign away your life to pay for a shite hole.
Plus, teaching in California would've made me ragey.

Does that guy have a big arse cooler in his room?

None of that explains the trashy interior of those houses. I don't care how much money you make or have, cleaning up after yourself is free and what separates us from animals.

Zillow East Palo Alto. From '88-'01 had one of the highest per capita violent crime rates in the nation. 91-92 had the highest per capita murder rate in the nation. We used to go to shootings every night in the "G" (Garden neighborhood). One of the guys on our team used to always say we should each pitch in $5K each an buy a couple of houses in that neighborhood and hold onto them as an investment. Back in the late '80's and early to mid-'90's the most expensive houses in that neighborhood were going for about $35-40K.
I'm seeing a house in that neighborhood that we knew very well is going for $1.6million. We should have listened to you Pugs.

A lot of people try justifying it with the “higher pay” mantra but the pay isn’t THAT much higher... we’re talking like an extra 10k a year.
I feel the same way. My pay would probably be 30% more in areas of CA but I'd have to pay triple the mortgage.

I have to move to SD soon for work. Not looking forward to buying there.

I'd love to live there.
It's a pretty cool place to live. Always something going on no matter what day it is and the weather is awesome 99% of the time. Just expensive is all but I am half a block from the beach so that raises the price obviously. I could find a cheaper place in Torrance or something but I like where I am and it's nice just to be able to walk everywhere I need to.

Not to mention that giant stadium complex the Rams are building. That's going to change that whole area.
