If sperm banks are anything like the cattle industry, there is a ridiculous amount frozen semen sitting on the side lines waiting to get into the game. Not to mention frozen embryo's etc.

is this a transmitted disease? or can it only be obtained from a mosquito bite?

Zika Virus is a vector-borne disease transmitted by Aedes aegypti, and passed from mother to child during pregnancy. There have been reports of possible transmission through blood or sexual contact, but these are unconfirmed as of yet.

Im calling bullshite on Brazils numbers. They have had 3,500 cases of microcephaly since june. They claim they had only 150 cases in all of 2014. Well, USA averages 25,000 cases of microcephaly a year in newborns. Brazils population is 200 milion compared to 300 million in america. So 3,500 cases in half a year sounds about right for their population size. Once again, there have been no confirmed reports the Zika virus causes microcephaly in fetuses.

I don't know how robust the Brazilian surveillance for microcephaly is, but they certainly claim to have noticed an uptick related to the disease. Better we have travel advisories out of an abundance of caution than invite an epidemic of our own.

I agree it is better to be cautious. But how can Brazil claim to have 150 cases a year when the US has 25,000? It seems to me there is a good chance Brazil doesnt monitor these things very well. I do know this is a news channels wet dream though. Swine flu was fun for them, but something that could potentially harm fetuses, they will go full speed ahead with this

On Friday, an international team of researchers reported results from tests on 35 babies born in Brazil with microcephaly and said tests showed they were not infected with anything else. No other country besides Brazil has reported an increase in birth defects yet.
Alot of reports I am reading believe there is no link from Zika to microcephaly. I am simply trying to pump the brakes a little for this board.

Agreed, I would bet that their surveillance system for newborn defects is not as sensitive as ours. There may also be other environmental factors at play depending on how it's measured in each place (e.g. child mortality numbers).

So they tested 35 babies, which would be 23% of the annual microcephaly rate for Brazil, and they all did not have Zika. That tells me that Brazil had no clue the amount of actual microcephaly cases before this.
