It's like 1:1 with the US dollar right now.

Dude you're an idiot, and I'm in the finance field. $1 USD = .92 Euro. $1USD = .99 Swiss Franc.

Wow.

Hopefully not giving financial advice to people if you don't understand basic economics.

Switzerlands cost of living is among the highest in the world. Combine that with a franc that has done nothing but strengthen against the USD in 15 years, and it doesn't equal the most opportune time to visit. Not saying you shouldn't visit, but Germany or Austria have some awesome snow towns and are much cheaper to visit where the USD is the strongest it's been against the EURO in a long time.

That was what I was contributing to the thread. Didn't anticipate some finance guy come in and spew bullshite.

Switzerland is super expensive. My brother and I went two years ago and it was almost $20 for a sandwich and $5 for a Coke.

Would be about a third or maybe half what you pay in Switzerland and a much cooler vibe.

Conversion rate doesn't mean shite if it costs 20 francs in one country and 10 euro in the other.

I think you're the one looking bad here. It doesn't matter if a franc is worth less dollars than a euro if a dollar in Switzerland will purchase less than a dollar in Austria.

You might think it's awesome that a dollar can get you 7 kroners in Norway, until you go there and realize it costs 70 kroners for a beer. You might think it's weak sauce that a dollar only buys you .9 euros in Germany but delighted when you find you can get a beer for 1.5 euros

So it's pointless to compare the conversions and state that as your reasoning for which is a better.

Also it's pointless to talk about saving money when he's asking for vacation tips on the switzerland trip he already paid for

That's not what his argument was though. I understand what he's trying to spin it as now, that the cost of living may be much higher. However his original statement was to travel elsewhere because the euro had a more favorable exchange which is not true.

Anyways, I'm not concerned about that, but more so wanted to hear anyone's experience that had been there.

Dude. You really are dense. Favorable in terms of currency conversion is measured in historical trends. It's a "favorable" time to visit Euro denominated countries for US citizens due to the current exchange rate. It's not a "favorable" time to visit Switzerland for US citizens due to the CHF exchange rate. See how that works?

I hope you have an unfavorable time in Zermatt.
