You will love it. Clean and beautiful. People were not rude. Never been skiing but bet you'll have a blast. 20 years from now you won't remember the $ but you will remember having a good time.

Do you not understand how much money things like this will cost in Switzerland?
Apparently some on this site does not.

I'm not hung up on that. I'm hung up on the OP being a dumbass.
I was simply suggesting an alternative. Didn't realize the OP would go full dumbass. I'd definitely travel through Switzerland in the current economic climate and see Lucerne , Bern, Jungfrau etc but if the desire is to do a ski resort in the swiss alps, there are better options.

Obviously you've never been then an can't contribute anything useful to this thread. The Matterhorn is one of the top ski destinations in the world

Switzerland is EXTREMELY expensive. The last time we went we spent almost $40 on 2 Big Mac's, that's how expensive it is. It's one of the most expensive countries in Europe, if not the most expensive

Um...the franc is currently at parity with the USD. How about looking at some data before spouting off BS.

That's not what his argument was though. I understand what he's trying to spin it as now, that the cost of living may be much higher. However his original statement was to travel elsewhere because the euro had a more favorable exchange which is not true.
You really are mind-numbingly dumb.
ETA: ITT you can tell who has ever been out of the country (excl the Caribbean) and who hasn't.

Switzerland is literally the most expensive place in the world just according to the Big Mac Index. Sure, 1 Sws franc = 1 USD, but goods cost more francs (and thus, more dollars) over there.

Lol. Shite head I've been to Australia, Rome, Paris, London, Greece, Mexico and Ireland. How's that for being in the Caribbean?
Like I said earlier, don't comment in this thread if you don't have something helpful to bring to my OP.

Since you are OP I will reel it in and try to be helpful.
I have been to Switzerland including Zermatt, but didn't ski (I was there less than 3 months ago). The Matterhorn and surrounding glaciers and other peaks are beautiful and some of the most remarkable mountains you'll ever see.
Can't help on the specific ski conditions, but Switzerland is a blast.
BUT. You are going to spend a lot of money on day-to-day costs, more than you ever have at any of the other places you've been to. I just experienced this in September and I have been to a shite ton of places to compare it to.
Someone else was being helpful in that, if you aren't locked into Switzerland, that it is comparatively one of the best times in a long time to check out comparable Eurozone countries. Italy, Austria, & France would all have alpine skiing. Your dollar will go a lot further than in Switzerland, and to the point of that poster, a lot further than it used to would have in those eurozone countries.
Person was trying to help you. I'm surprised you didn't/don't get it.
If money is of zero concern, then I can't say Switzerland has a better option at all. Truly a great place to go and visit, and I'm sure the skiing is world-class, bucket-list style
I mean what's cooler than saying you skiied the swiss alps?

Thank you I appreciate that. Money is not a concern on this trip.
So I'm curious since you didn't ski, what did you do? Because I've never ski'd before and while I'm sure I may love it I do want other options of things to do.

I too have never skiied and I was only there for a long weekend.
Essentially I rented a car and simply drove around the country, getting out and hiking certain areas. Nothing too rigorous, but it was my first time in the Alps so I just wanted to take in the scenery.
I tend to like the outdoors in general when I travel.
Around Zermatt, I took the train up to Gornergrat and then hiked down parallel to the tracks but without them in sight. Then hopped back on and went back to town.
Zermatt itself is carfree to if you are planning to rent a car, keep in mind you'll have to park at the last town on the way and take a train in.
I would have killed to have more time around the Matterhorn, so I could do some of the other climbs/trips to the surrounding mountains.
Away from Zermatt:
One distinct memory was parking my car at Grimselpass and walking/hiking around the surrounding hills overlooking the lake.
The ride between Obergoms and Brig was absolutely beautiful.

Sweet, we like to hike as well and are looking forward to that. I was aware it was a car free city. We are staying at Mont Cervin, that I believe has horse and carriages to take you around if you'd like.
