Leonardo DiCaprio takes helicopters from yachts to go to dinner, but you need to turn your AC up to 78 degrees

I doubt it. That's your father's job, not mine.

Sounds like their carbon offset schemes.

The “green” movement is a prime example. You can get government backing or corporate investment for just about anything as long as you call it “green” and say it will save the environment. It doesn’t matter if it does nothing for the environment, or even damages the environment, as long as the government gets more control or the corporations make more money.
In this sense, I agree with you, but I'm not seeing the profit motive with what are essentially more conservative arguments about land use. Of course Europe has more traction for these ideas as they have a different history of land use, but for a long portion human history, having services within 15 minutes of your home was the standard. In terms of forcing the elite to live by the rules they wish to set, I also agree. The way they choose to live undermines the seriousness with which they approach things like 'climate change,' and in that sense I understand the skepticism of other things they promote. I wish they didn't promote these ideas as widespread solutions, because the French case isn't one that is easily exportable to the US and Canada specifically. It can be a solution for older cities but the solutions for American cities have to be different.

Don't be a bitch. That was at least a 4/10.

Okay, so your idea is that because I understand the history of the 15 minute city term, that I'm also going to be on the side of elites that don't live by the rules they suggest for others? Firstly, I am not on their side, as their own actions undermine the idea that we should take 'climate change' seriously. Secondly, that is a wild jump in logic on your part.

The apex of the licking of the boots.
I believe in climate change, I dont believe in the doomsday prophecies and fear porn.
Mankind will survive, so will the earth. If we lose a few, we will be better off.

We could go 100% nuclear and then electric cars would be more viable for the electric grid and the environment would be 1000x better off. The idea of changing the entire new world to one that doesn’t involve the vast majority of people driving where they need to go is beyond impossible.
I do wish high speed rail could happen here in the US. Build trains in the medians of the interstate. Would help alleviate the strain on air travel and would be cheaper and more comfortable to travel.

Yep, the "Green movement" fricked this up decades ago.
The unintended consequences of social justice. More climate change.

The fact that the people pushing the 'green' energy stuff don't use nuclear energy as the basis of any transition makes them completely unserious.

Another actually potentially interesting topic fricked up by politics on the OT.
