Maybe this is a generational disconnect

but eating and drinking is not an activity. Why would I drive to a brewery and spend a lot of money on drinks to watch TV when I can spend way less money on drinks and watch TV for free in my house?
1) it’s not a generational disconnect, you’re just autistic
2) is $45 for a couple pints and a burger really “a lot of money”?

Public or semi public pools in 2024

I have my own pool, but we still bring my daughter to the club pool, too

In the 90's and early 2000's we had bars in Jackson where it was filled with 20 and 30 somethings. Rodeos, The Dock, Fire, Millenium, and others. Actually had ladies nights on Wed or Thursday nights and girls planned around it .

No such thing anymore here. They might hang at Fondren Public and North Tavern and that's it . Nothing like it used to be. Three things I think ruined it. Covid, smoking bans, and damn phones and their apps.

I don't know if it's because I've grown older, or if the "scene" has changed, but my friend group is much more likely to go to dinner and drink than we are to go to a bar a drink. Or, if we're going to a bar it's usually for pre-dinner drinks rather than post.

You’d see way more people older than 35 and well into their early 50’s at The Station, Sullivan’s, Triple A, Southdowns, Caterie, etc

Cadillac Cafe used to be mostly people from 25-45 or so.

I really stopped going to bars around 28. Obviously, not counting restaurant bars, a work meeting or occasionally on vacation. Kids will do that for you. Now we could go but no longer have any desire to.

Yes.

The reality is that millennials and gen z are working more hours for less pay relative to inflation, more debt, and less disposable income than gen z and boomers had at the same age. While social media has certainly negatively impacted in-person hang out culture, the biggest driver of “why don’t millennials/zoomers like _____?” or “Millennials and Zoomers are killing _____” is money. They have significantly less disposable income, what money they have goes less far, and thus they spend less on “nights out”.

Much like social media, third places only work if everyone else uses them first.
