That coach and another had been doing it for a few years and I guess it was routine. Im not a head coach so I just watched.
Are you allowed to enter you own team or is it supposed to be an actual draft?

Pretty sure my son's Flag Football team would destroy whatever you have in your league. They are legit stacked.

Kids register individually and are chosen individually.

How old are the kids? My nephew played his first year of youth flag football last year. He was 4, but turned 5 at the end of the year.

I don't think they had a draft. I think they just assigned kids in order they signed up. They just picked out of a hat as to what team would get the first kid, second.. and so on and from there.. The first kid who signed up went to team 1, 2nd kid to team 2 and so on.

They don't really teach them the fundamentals, but again they are 4-5. All they pretty much know is that if someone on their team has the ball and runs it to the end of the field it is a touchdown.

For those who currently have or had kids in youth flag football.. Did they play 11 on 11? Or 7 on 7? Because my nephew's league was playing 11 on 11 and with 22 kids who don't really know what to do, on the field at once, it is hard to really manage in terms of running any type of offense or defense, etc... So they kids are pretty much playing rough tumble fumble.

It was 7v7 or maybe even 6v6. 11v11 sounds like a mess, more like a rugby scrum I bet.

Our leagues play 6v6. This is ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-14.

After the third round, you gotta start drafting the good looking moms.

then he just wants to coach his son's friends, and he actually did you a favor. He will end up last in the league, and learn to never do that again.

I had friend who did that in little league. After getting his butt run ruled for much of the season the next year he told the wife (this is where the idea of drafting Junior's classmates comes from), that he was picking the best player available!

It was. Does not really matter until you get to middle school. At that point your kid will need to have skill to see the field more.

Elementary age rec leagues, who cares. Just let your kid play and quit whining, they are just there for the snack after the game.

I'm not surprised a bit. I've seen the ego of men trying to stack youth teams. Whatever it takes to win a game....

It does nothing to help kids down the road. Today, especially in corp America people need to learn how to work with people they dont know. IMO make the kids bond with others they dont know and learn to win together. Make it a challenge for them overcome. Learn to work through adversity. Take an arse whipping and learn what it feels like to fail.
