Dropping the bomb saved Japanese lives in the 100s of thousands, if not millions.

Those of us who had History class before SJWs started re-writing it know this.

Not only did the dropping of the bombs save lives and end WWII, it also prevented WWIII by demonstrating to Stalin that any attempts at advancing into Western Europe would be met with defeat.

history is heavily laced with propaganda. it isn't always re-writing, sometimes it's stripping off the sugar coat

I believe in Aug-Sept. of 1945 we had 3 maybe 4 bombs ready with more being produced at a rate of (I believe) about 1 per month.

Not really. Most of Japan’s major military infrastructure was centered in cities and ports. In fact, one of the main deciding factors in choosing Hiroshima as the first target was because it was the HQ of one of Japan’s “Area Armies” (equal to an Army Group) that would have been tasked with the defense of southern Japan in the event of invasion.

I find it odd that there are those who are voicing disapproval to the decision in the other thread but they are unwilling to answer my question in the OP of this thread.

I still want to know, if you oppose the decision to dropping the a-bomb, what would you have done instead and why? Anyone?

Of course I drop the bomb. My obligation is to the people of the U.S., not Japan.

Drop the bomb. I would have no intentions of launching a land invasion. As bad as the bombs were, the Japanese would have fought us to the last man defending that island. Literally. They displayed their absolute ferocity many times over. Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Peilelu, etc. The invasion of Japan would have led to losses on a biblical scale for both sides.

I agree with Truman's decision AND Eisenhower's decision to threaten the Chinese with nukes over Korea.

Frankly W should have and might have considered using them in Afghanistan instead of invading.

I understand the decision to drop the bomb and believe there was no other way without a major loss of US life. it is possible to not be against the bombing but still feel some remorse over having to kill a lot of innocent people.

There are folks who seem to be stoked that we had to do that.

That wasn’t Ike. You’re thinking of Gen. MacArthur.

W should have had the troops run through Afghanistan and then pulled out and left them to deal with their own problems instead of trying to bring them democracy/rebuild their infrastructure.

I agree. It was a terrible thing to do. But if one looks at the facts of the situation, we had no other choice. Dropping the bomb was the most humane way to end the war in the fastest way possible with the lowest loss of life for both sides.
