So borrowing money for a $20K per semester liberal arts degree is probably a bad decision? Who would have thought...

Probably, but it depends. What will that degree get you in terms of return? Do you have a job lined up and all you need is a degree?

For the most part, yeah...borrowing money at that high of an interest rate only makes sense if it offers a good return on the investment.

I am getting my MBA currently while working full time (from Auburn).

Will owe only about $16k when I'm done and my company has paid for a lot of it. I think that's worth it in the long run.

I can make that with just 1 promotion that I get just from having an MBA.

In your day, a year's worth of tuition+food+rent wasn't at least $20,000 annually. My grandparents could work over a summer and pay a year's tuition. Cost of everything has hiked so much that no job summer job would pay all that

Sounds like a bunch of lazy excuses. Work harder.

I don't see how I can make a good living without getting into some debt, but it is a very scary feeling. Thoughts?

Just like saving for retirement you have to make an investment if you want a future. The great thing in comparison is here in the USA you can take out a loan for that investment. Just make sure your degree has a good ROI. Even a 200k student loan, if you are making an extra 50k a year for life is a great deal

I just graduated with a decent amount due on my student loans, I was fortunate to get a few scholarships and my parents paid some as well. Best decision, it took me a little while but I found a great job out here and was able to attend the school u wanted too. My parents are extremely successful first generation Americans and took loans to complete their college..... You can't put a price on education it's always worth it.

Yeah maybe if your getting a fancy private school degree

My son starts at LSU next year. Had no idea it was a fancy private school. According to the cost calculator on LSUs website, it will cost 21,204 AFTER TOPS. 29,114 Without TOPS. And that's undergrad.

Take that biology degree and head to dental school, baw. 4 years and you're out, no need for a residency and all that crap, you're working at 25-26 years old and starting at 6 figures and a 32 hour work week, 9-5, no weekends.
